Todds - the door and window repair people

Todds - the door and window repair people This is the new page for Todds - the door and window repair people. The service is the same although we are no longer based in an industrial unit in Amesbury.

We've gone mobile... J P Todd Glass and Glazing Ltd ceased trading in September 2020. You will find we no longer exist at Unit 8 Stockport Park in Amesbury. Here's why...

COVID-19 and the supply of raw products like glass and plastics affected J P Todd Glass and Glazing Ltd like other companies. For us it meant we had to do something different.. Hence J P Todd Glass and Glazing Ltd closed down. D

uring September, John Todd formed Todds - the door and window repair people and a new chapter begins on October 1st 2020. We've kept the same phone number; we've kept the good service... only difference is we've gone mobile - which means on the whole we come to you to fix your problematic doors, windows and products. In fact, our ethos changed too, no more big jobs, no more doors and windows, and no more gutterline products. Small jobs being the way forward. In the main, our product base contains over 1250 types of parts that can repair your products, whether they are domestic or commercial premises. We will also identify those problematic parts and can mail out replacement parts so you can fix your own products too. Here you will find all the latest news; the area we cover, as a reactive response business. We can also supply glass sealed units made to order as well as some types of glass cut to size including horticultural glass. We hope you will enjoy what we post, and as you will see we are a very busy firm working out of the historic area of Amesbury, the home of Stonehenge.

Saw this picture pop up in our collection yesterday where 8 years ago we went to board up the front door after a car came down the hill and crashed through the front door.

Look at the tyre marks on the carpet.

We've been trading over 46 years since John Todd began self employment as a sole trader. Later becoming J P Todd Glass & Glazing Ltd, and nowadays Todds - 'the door and window repair people'.

We are proud of that and in the run up to 50 years in around 4 years time, we've made significant investment into a clean, crisp new image on the van, our uniforms, our stationary and our advertising.

It's about time we did some social media. Normally we are too busy to tie us to a computer keyboard.

Winter is coming, the temperature drops and the cold comes in. Window and door servicing time.

Give us a wave when you see us about.

We are extremely busy in the run up to 2024 and now only have limited dates available before the Christmas and New Year company shutdown.

Whilst we expect to service the needs of most of our customers, if you do require those draughty doors and windows fixing before Christmas, please bear in mind we operate an appointment system where we place the elderly and vulnerable as priority during this cold weather period.

01/12/2023

Our KPi's for the month (Key Performance Indicators)

Priority A - 1 - 4 hour emergency attendance 100%

Priority B - 24 hour urgent attendance 93%

Priority C - 7 day attendance 77%

Priority D - 31 days Routine/Non-urgent 53%

This gives us an action plan to work to to always improve where we can. Its not all about 100%'s, as some of our figures reflect having to order and wait materials arriving/manufacturers delays etc.

Todds - 'the door and window repair people' don't need to put too much on here as we are just so busy.

But looking at our advertising, it's obvious we don't have time to update our social media, but things are changing.

Twice a week, we are going to update this with a round up of what we have been doing, and how the industry is fairing. Watch this space...

Today the Todds team have been busy in Amesbury, Porton, Winterslow and Bognor Regis with a varied and mixed workload.

First off in Amesbury was a new contract for us, working on defective door systems to a communal block of flats. A change of door mechanism and handles with realignment to the actual doors and frame resolved this for our client.

In Winterslow, we gained access to three jammed windows and fitted new shootbolt gearboxes. Again, a nice result for the client who while we were there got us to reverse his defective door panel to give a new lease of life to an aged door and frame.

A trip down the M27 and A27 to Bognor Regis for a reverse hang of a door. Nice trip... shame about the roadworks.

Tomorrow we are mainly in and round Salisbury, but first our expected glass delivery has to be unloaded.

Shortages are becoming a seemingly popular issue these days. From material shortages to gas shortages, we have seen more in the past 12 months to even keep track. But for more than the past 12 months, we have one that is really impacting our supply chain: a glass shortage.

As you may or may not have heard, the glass shortage which started during Covid 19 is still with us well into 2021. Due to various factors, including the global pandemic and rising international gas tariffs, glass is becoming harder to find and more expensive to purchase.

Unfortunately, due to the recent global pandemic, various factories and manufacturers have had to put a halt to or slow down glass production, making it extremely difficult to meet demands. Getting back on their feet after being closed or at minimum production for so long has been extremely difficult, especially if they aren’t at normal work capacity due to health and safety guidelines. Thus, the shortage.

The glass shortage impact on the construction industry is immense. Already impacted from other materials and labour shortage when employees have left the industry, combined with the heightened prices over the last 12 months, the construction industry has taken continuous hits during the pandemic. We have issues keeping track of price increases…

Over the shut-down period, people were investing both time and money to rebuild or remodel their homes, creating a huge need for supplies. However, with the decrease in production and the increase in demand, it has been difficult for the industry to keep up. Now, relaxed Covid 19 working we have the difficulty to find and obtain basic flat glass types.

We as a company are taking a huge hit because of this issue. Our supply chain is badly disrupted and at times we are obviously feeling the pressure. Our number one supplier continually warns us about unavailability, price increases, and extended lead times — all impacting our ability to serve our customers at our normal efficiency. We can only apologise, but we cannot alter market forces.

With our customers being our first priority, we try to provide the best service possible amidst the challenges we are all facing. We remind you there is no 2mm picture glass; 3mm horticultural glass and many other glass product lines unavailable to us at present and have been so for some months. We have access to very limited flat glass so our cut to size glass for customers is severely disrupted.

Our door and window spares and repairs side of the business remain functioning, with only a few parts still stuck in containers from the Suez Canal ship blockage, with those items yet to arrive at suppliers. Please bear with us, we’re trying really hard.

John Todd.

Repairs are our preferred workload nowadays, so we were pleased when our NHS client requested repairs to a rotted roofline. Here we are removing the old plywood and renewing the backing board before we clad over the top with PVCu fascia and trims.

Really pleased with our new business cards. Designed by John, and printed by Andy and the team at Amesbury Printing.
