Wild About The Woods Forest School

Wild About The Woods Forest School A provider of fun outdoor learning and play sessions in local woodland for pre-school children atten

We are a Forest School Learn and Play Group aimed at providing fun outdoor activity sessions throughout the year for pre-school children accompanied by an adult. The sessions are held in a safe and secure woodland environment with easy access from Angmering, West Sussex and there is parking, toilets and access for push chairs on site. Our aim is to facilitate child-led imaginative play using the re

sources that nature provides us in the woods whilst learning to respect and care for the creatures that live there. We also encourage participants to be involved in setting the ground rules for the group and doing risk assessments during each session.

Swings, slides and ropes were found in the woods today! A perfect Autumn day although the occasional shower threatened to put out our fire...but waving the Witches wand and broomstick sweeping soon put a stop to that!

Rain, rain go away come again another day...or just enjoy listening to the pitter patter of rain on the leaves, casting spells in the woods with a magic (stick) wand and making natural paint from chalk under the tarp! We even managed to light the fire for a well-deserved hot chocolate and biscuits.

...maybe we'll hear the trees whispering to each other on Friday!

They may not admit to it but many folk talk to trees from time to time. Maybe the trees don’t reply or enter into a conversation but a growing body of evidence suggests that trees do communicate with each other.

In our latest blog the Royal Forestry Society's John Jackson looks at the evidence to find out how trees communicate with each other, and tells us about Earth's "natural internet", how mycorrhizal networks work, and the lessons we can learn for forestry. Read on at http://www.woodlandtru.st/7AdWj

Our first session back for the Autumn term and the children built beautiful bug homes today. They then entered into a tug of war with a rope that was also used as the cable TV for one of the bug's homes!

A fun filled morning of mud making and marshmallows in the woods! And where is the bear hiding? The children loved the Bear Hunt story under the tarp especially when they made it snow! Finally everyone whittled a very long stick to heat their marshmallows over the dying embers of the fire and then sadly had to say goodbye to the woods until September.

A busy morning exploring the woods. We found a Badger Trail and created Journey Sticks before arriving at the fire circle to light the fire for hot chocolate and a story with Sian.
