𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 🏫🌳

Today we carried out a risk assessment on three trees in an urban setting using the VALID Tree Risk methodology.

In settings such as these, the concentration of vehicular traffic as well as footfall are tangible considerations.

Fortunately, all three of the trees surveyed today exhibited no Obvious Tree Risk Features and were recorded as exhibiting Acceptable, and Tolerable levels of risk.

Last week we were in Murcia, sweltering in 37 degree heat.

Despite that, there were plenty of trees to enjoy - most of them originating from warm climes such as Australia and South America and Central Africa.

If climate change continues at its current pace, how long before the streets of Belfast and Dublin are lined with Fig, Eucalyptus and Tipu trees?

(Probably a long, long time for Belfast tbf!)

𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐬 🌳 😢

Losing someone close is difficult. When it happens, it can feel like losing part of yourself as well.

The same is true of this tree. It lost its partner back in 2025, and with that loss went part of its shared canopy.

Time though, will heal all. The parts lost by this tree to grief will start to fill in and it will become whole again.

The memory of its neighbour will persist too, with epicormic growth already sprouting out of the failed stem.

As always, trees provide a tremendous anaology for life.

Four days out on-site surveying trees for a proposed development have now moved digital as we put together our findings and prepare a planning ready document for the client.

Our Arboricultural Impact Assessments - sometimes referred to as ‘BS 5837 Surveys’ - typically follow the same format:

1️⃣ Site meeting with the client to discuss the proposals and the potential interactions between trees and development.
2️⃣ An on-site tree survey based on the criteria within BS 5837:2012
3️⃣ Production of a Tree Constraints Plan (TCP) that shows the developable area in DWG format, along with a written report outlining our findings
4️⃣ Supplementary tree survey to reflect any design changes proposed by the client
5️⃣ Production of a planning ready Arboricultural Impact Assessment report and Tree Protection Plan (TPP) identifying trees for retention and removal, as well as outlining protection and mitigation measures - in written and DWG formats
6️⃣ Planning Approval Granted! 🥳
