‘Mike Addison Optician Ltd’ is a truly independent professional optical practice in the heart of Appleby-in-Westmorland. Based in the historic Shire Hall, on Appleby’s famous ‘Sands’; the practice is a perfect blend of all that you would expect from a traditional optician mixed with some of the most up to date equipment for examining eyes and vision. The Practice has a very comfortable, relaxed ye
t professional ambience. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by one of our friendly, confident Optical Receptionists – Anna Wharton or Rosemary Mandale, who instantly give you a feeling of reassurance and put you at ease. Preliminary assessments are undertaken by Qualified and GOC registered Dispensing Optician (DO), Mike Addison. These assessments include Retinal Imaging, which is an excellent tool for monitoring or aiding the identification of conditions that can affect the eye such as Diabetes, Glaucoma and Macula Degeneration. Following these assessments, a thoroughly comprehensive eye examination is undertaken by one of our fully qualified and experienced Optometrists (Optom) – David Stone or Richard Nicholson. Both David and Richard have many years of experience within independent optical practice and they both have an excellent reputation for clinical excellence. The examination is structured in such a way that the patient is as relaxed as possible and every procedure is explained and the results are discussed fully with the patient. Following the eye examination, the results are also discussed with the Dispensing Optician, Mike, who can then advise on the appropriate course of action to take with regards to choosing the correct type of spectacle lenses and frames if they are needed. Contact lenses can also be considered if the patient is suitable. This can also be discussed with Mike, who is also a fully qualified Contact Lens Optician (CLO)
All this is done with the patients’ best interest at heart and time is taken to ensure that the patient does not feel rushed or pressurised into purchasing something they do not feel comfortable with! Patients of all ages and circumstances are made to feel welcome. We accept both private and NHS patients and we aim provide excellent quality eye care for the whole community. Children under the age of 16 and adults over the age of 60 automatically qualify for a NHS eye exam, as do people of restricted income and students under the age of 19 and in full time education (certain NHS guidelines and restrictions may apply)
The practice is ideally located to service the optical needs of the entire Eden Valley and beyond! Mike Addison Optician – ‘Providing eye care for all the family’
