In 1987 aged 15, I was fortunate to be placed with a manufacturing company called Entec (Pollution Control) Ltd on my work experience from school in Andover, Hampshire. That’s me on the left of the picture below looking somewhat bewildered at the strange looking large tanks and wondering why I didn’t choose a nice clean office to fill the next two weeks of my life! It turned out to be the best dec

ision I made, the company was run by an amazing group of passionate people with a proper ‘open door’ policy, everybody was encouraged to be involved in helping the company grow. I was the first work experience student they had taken and I obviously made an impression as they invited me back during my summer holidays that same year. They went on to offer me an apprenticeship when I left school combined with supporting me through college on a day release programme to obtain my A-Levels and a BTEC. British Water Accredited Engineer

After 3 months training in each department including factory floor, engineering, accounts and transport, I found my true vocation, sales! Aged 19, I was promoted to the position of Sales Office Manager, then a further two years later, I was let loose to cover the Hampshire area as a Sales Representative and then for the next 10 years the whole of the South East, working with home owners, their Architects and Contractors and then finally as a specialist installer myself, offering a complete turn-key solution, from initial drainage layout design, installation and then ongoing maintenance as a British Water Accredited Engineer. Using all the experiences I have acquired over the last 30 years enables me to help and advise people in any given situation, no matter what. From a single house to a large hotel complex, I have the experience to advise all types of clients on all aspects of current legislation, product specification, installation and maintenance.

Off-mains drainage isn’t one size fits all.

Every property and every site is different, which is why the right solution starts with understanding exactly what you’re dealing with.

At Ward Environmental Services, we work with homeowners, property buyers and sellers, developers and commercial clients on all aspects of off-mains drainage.

That might mean carrying out a survey to establish the condition and compliance of an existing system, designing and specifying a new solution, replacing a septic tank or installing a sewage treatment plant, cesspool or pump station.

For more complex projects, we can also provide bespoke consultancy, project management and on-site supervision, helping to manage the process from the initial assessment through to installation.

Our approach is straightforward. We look at the site, understand what’s required and give you advice based on your particular needs.

If you have an off-mains drainage system that needs attention, you’re buying or selling a property, or you have a new project in the pipeline, speak to us before deciding what comes next.

Another Kazuba installation underway, this time in the New Forest. 🌱

We’re installing this one on an allotment garden for the local Parish Council, where there’s no power, water or drainage available. That’s exactly where a Kazuba waterless toilet comes into its own. With no need for water, chemicals or electricity, these systems provide a practical, environmentally friendly solution for remote locations.

First on site were with the digger and dumper, ready for the team to get the installation underway. ✅

If you manage a site without access to conventional services and would like to find out whether a Kazuba waterless toilet could work for you, get in touch with the WES team.

Here at Ward Environmental Services we keep up to date with any changes to the General Binding Rules and Building Control requirements. ✅

We know non-compliant systems risk forced upgrades, delays in sale, penalties and environmental damage. Proactive checks early in the sales process protects assets and reduces future remediation costs. 💡

If you’re an estate agent, surveyor, or solicitor and want to talk to us in confidence about a client’s property, please get in touch. ☎️

Are you buying or selling a rural property? It’s worth knowing standard surveys don’t inspect septic tanks or treatment plants in detail, which means hidden issues often surface during conveyancing or at a later date.

A dedicated off-mains drainage survey gives clarity early, speeds up sales and reduces the risk of fall-through. You get less stress and more certainty with a specialist assessment.

If you’re planning a move, please get in touch to discuss survey options.

Recommended to Tom. Now recommended by Tom. 🤩

There’s no better endorsement than a client being happy to put your name forward to someone else, so we were really pleased to receive this latest five-star review.

Tom came to us following a recommendation, and our team installed a new sewage treatment plant to replace the property’s old septic tank and pumping station.

From communication and punctuality through to explaining the process and, most importantly, the quality of the finished installation, it’s great to hear that Tom was so pleased with the service he received.

A huge thank you for taking the time to leave such a fantastic review, Tom. We really appreciate it.

If you need advice about replacing or upgrading an existing septic tank or off-mains drainage system, please get in touch with the WES team to discuss your options. 💬

Selling a property with off-mains drainage? You need to watch this video…👀

Following on from our recent video for buyers, Mark from Ward Environmental Services and Nicholas from Ingham Fox are looking at the other side of the property sale: the seller. 🏡

In this video, they discuss why it makes sense to start the drainage survey process early when selling a property with a septic tank or sewage treatment plant, rather than waiting until a buyer is already progressing with the purchase.

Knowing what you have in place and understanding its condition and compliance early in the process means you’re better prepared when questions are raised further down the line.💡

If you’re thinking about putting your property on the market, speak to us about arranging a Survey.💬

Buying a property with off-mains drainage? Please don’t leave the drainage survey until the last minute. 🏡

In the latest video in our series, Mark from Ward Environmental Services and Nick Fox from Ingham Fox Unique Homes discuss why buyers should start the drainage survey process early when purchasing a property with a septic tank or sewage treatment plant.

It’s an important part of understanding the property you’re buying, and starting the process early means there’s time to establish exactly what system is in place and its condition and compliance before you get too far down the line.

If you’re buying a property with off-mains drainage, speak to us as early as you possibly can.

Watch Mark and Nick explain why timing matters. 🎥

09/08/2026

Stay tuned…Mark and Nicholas are back, and this time they’re on location (location, location!).

Over the next few videos, they’ll be looking at off-mains drainage from both sides of a property sale, combining Nick’s perspective as an estate agent with Mark’s experience as an off-mains drainage specialist.

If you’re buying or selling a rural property with a septic tank or sewage treatment plant, there are some useful conversations coming your way.
