📣 Reminder: harvest is coming early this year and we’re still looking for volunteers!

After the hottest, driest summer we’ve had, the grapes are ready sooner than usual - likely mid September to early October.

📅 Potential dates: 13th Sept, 20th Sept, 26th/27th Sept & 3rd/4th Oct (confirmed closer to the time)
📍 Nine Oaks Vineyard, Hothfield
⏰ 4-6 hours picking, on one day or as many as you fancy
🍷 Spots are limited

Verasion in action! 🍇

One of the most exciting moments in the vineyard calendar is currently underway. Veraison is when the grapes start their transformation from hard, green berries into tasty ripe grapes - softening, changing colour and building up their sugar levels as they ripen.

This year it’s arrived about a week earlier than last, thanks to the hot, dry summer we’ve had. One of the milestones that reminds us harvest isn’t far off now. It never stops being exciting to watch, even after six years of doing this.

It’s nearly time for harvest 2026! 🍇 After the extremely hot and dry summer we’ve had, the grapes are looking great which means harvest is coming early this year and we’re looking for harvest volunteers for our 6th harvest!

📅 Potential dates: 13th Sept, 20th Sept, 26th/27th Sept & 3rd/4th Oct (these will be confirmed closer to the time)

Harvest is always such a brilliant experience. There’s something very special about picking the grapes that’ll end up our w**e which you’ll get to enjoy once it’s released. How many people can say they’ve done that?

How many of you are part of a group chat that’s been saying “we should do something” all summer?!📱

Someone suggests a date. Two people like the message. Nobody actually books anything. 6 months later, still nothing arranged.. And then the cycle starts all over again! 😆

We’ve been lucky to have had a wonderful Kent summer so far and it’s easy to assume you’ve got all the time in the world to do those fun plans you suggested at the beginning but you don’t! Our tours run through to October and once the season ends, that’s it for tours until next year.

So this your sign. Pick a date, put it in the group chat and assign the most organised friend to book it. 🍾

Martyn recently sat down with Sean on the Barrels & Roots podcast to talk about what goes into owning a Kent vineyard. It’s not all about sunset shots and beautiful vineyard images. He opened up about the real risks that come with running a small English vineyard. The reality is a bad weather season can undo a year’s work in a matter of weeks!

Did you know 2024 nearly wiped out our entire harvest? 🌧️ Months of relentless rain, mildew creeping through the vines, and a crop we’d poured everything into, almost gone. It’s easy to only show the good bits. But we think the hard seasons are just as much a part of our story and exactly why every bottle that does make it to your glass means that much more to us. 🍇

Martyn also talked about the leap that got us here in the first place - from ten years in the British Army, no farming background, selling our house, moving back to the UK from Kenya and planting our first vines in 2020 in the middle of Covid all with a young family in tow!
