Good afternoon everyone
There has been an increase in news about rogue locksmiths.
This is a quick post to remind everyone of what to look out for and what to ask when calling a locksmith.
Are they a local firm, although they may appear to be local some give that appearance but are actually part of larger companies who will purport to be a local company.
If they are cheap, this may be to good to be true, they agree to come out for a low call out fee and by the time they have finished you could be looking at a bill way up in the £100’s in some cases I have seen over a £1000, even for simple jobs. A genuine locksmith will not always be able to give you an exact price especially if you will need new parts but this is something they should be able to give you a rough idea of.
If you are locked out, your first question should be, “how do you intend to get me back in” the locksmith should then explain that the first port of call is non destructively, there will be occasions where a destructive entry to your door may be necessary, but this should be a last resort and should be discussed with you first, if definitely shouldn’t be the first thing they do.
Not all good reputable locksmiths will necessarily be members of the Master locksmiths association, so don’t be put off if they aren’t just be prepared to ask the earlier questions.
Finally if you aren’t sure about something please feel free to ring me on 07875 010 for advice
Kind regards
Paul
