Short-term sickness is conduct.
Long-term sickness is capability.

And confusing the two is where businesses get into trouble.

We see it all the time:
โ†’ Long-term illness managed through disciplinaries
โ†’ Repeated short absences ignored because it feels awkward

Both approaches create risk.
And with unfair dismissal rights now starting at six monthsโ€ฆ that risk is increasing.

โŒ Waiting days meant unpaid absence

From April 2026:
โœ… No minimum earnings threshold
โœ… Sick pay from day one

โœ… Longer-term sickness moves to new rules

The big shift?
