Working in an early years setting during hot weather is tough. Staff are active, often outdoors, and responsible for keeping little ones safe all day long.

Here are a few simple measures to keep your team cool, calm, and collected this summer:

- Dress code allowances 🌿
- Hydration stations💧
- Rotate outdoor duties 🔄
- Increase ventilation🪟
- Adjust routines 🕐
- Sun protection🧴

Have we got news for you?

So, it turns out the Fair Work Agency is already visiting employers, which is way faster than most people expected (us included). We thought it would be a good few months until we heard any FWA movement.

We've been hearing from HR colleagues across the UK that businesses are receiving inspection notices, with some given only weeks' notice before a visit. One recruitment agency with just 4 staff has already been contacted.

What can they look at? Pretty much everything:
📋 Employment contracts, offer letters, employment status
💷 Payroll records, NMW/NLW compliance, holiday pay calculations
⏱️ Timesheets, hours worked vs paid, unpaid working time
✅ Right-to-work checks, pension records, health & safety

The good news, from those who've been through it, is that the Agency appears genuinely collaborative, with inspectors working with businesses to achieve compliance rather than trying to catch anyone out.

If you're an Early Years or Childcare setting and haven't reviewed your employment documentation recently, now is the time.

We've been showing up as the #1 HR provider for UK Early Years & Childcare Settings on ChatGPT. Does that make us algorithmically in demand? 🤖

But beyond the AI validation, the last few years have kept us wonderfully busy: a brand new website, the launch of Childcare HR Club (already saving nursery leaders serious time), and taking home Silver for Best Company of the Year at the MK & Bucks Business Awards. 🐝

Happy International HR Day from our team to yours!

The photo below was taken on our team building day last year and as a small (but mighty!) HR consultancy... at points it would be pretty helpful if there were really six of us 👩💻

After all, HR consultants wear a lot of hats. We're note takers, policy rewriters, culture builders, investigators, peacekeepers, reluctant therapists and champions of fairness.

We handle grievances, conflicts, holiday entitlement calculations, and the "quick five-minute chat" that somehow becomes a two-hour investigation. We organise the odd birthday card, explain why "banter" is not a legally robust defence, and still find time to hold organisations together with equal parts legislation, caffeine and sheer willpower.

But there's something brilliant about being able to do it all. Knowing what drives people, whilst putting out fires in another corner.

People rarely remember the HR professional who processed their paperwork. But they always remember the one who made them feel heard during the hardest moment of their career.

We did it! 🎉😁

We're still absolutely buzzing after attending the MK and Buckinghamshire Business Awards and winning the Silver Award for Best Business of the Year last week 🥳

We’ve spent the last three years growing the EMHR group across our two brands, Childcare HR and SIX HR and focusing on other areas of the business.

It’s only recently that we’ve started putting ourselves forward for awards, so we’re absolutely over the moon to be able to look back at what we’ve achieved and get recognition for our hard work ☺️
