A spooktacular week of Halloween fun coming to Carndonagh.

Spraoi na Samhna runs from October 24 to 30, with activities for children of all ages and abilities
Award-winning Inishowen social enterprise Spraoi agus Spórt is inviting families from across the county to enjoy a week of Halloween activities, running from Saturday 24th to Friday 30th October in Carndonagh.

Designed to be inclusive, creative and accessible, Spraoi na Samhna features seasonal workshops, camps and sensory-friendly activities, with opportunities for children of different ages, interests and abilities to join the fun.

The celebration begins with a free magical Pumpkin Patch at Saothrú Nursery & Garden Centre from Saturday 24th to Monday 26th October, with sensory-friendly sessions available.

The Halloween activity camp runs from Tuesday 27th to Friday 30th October, packed with arts and crafts, active play, dance and music, Lego and technology.

Throughout the week, parents and toddlers can enjoy sensory play, baby group time, monster messy play and a toddler disco.

Older children can join the Creepy Cupcake Club, Spooky Food Art Decorating featuring banana ghosts, monster apple bites and creepy crawlies – and Spooky Sewing Fun on Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th October.

There will also be a Gaming Academy session featuring Minecraft, FIFA and Rocket League, alongside Scratch Coding for Juniors, introducing children to creating animations, stories and mini games.

Spooktacular Halloween Discos, tailored for different ages and needs, will finish off the week on Friday 30th October.

Lauren Harkin, Spraoi’s Community Events Officer, said: “Whether your child loves getting messy, gaming or baking, there’s a place for them this week. At Spraoi, we create happy, welcoming spaces where children can play, make friends and feel completely at home.”

Dad’s sensory bus in memory of daughter arrives at Silverburn for October holidays.

A sensory bus created by an Ayrshire dad as a tribute to his daughter Aoife, who passed away from a brain tumour in 2019 aged six, has arrived at Silverburn for the half term holidays.
Michael Kidd created Aoife’s Sensory Bus, which is operated by Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, to give children and young people who find busy or noisy environments overwhelming a place to unwind and explore at their own pace.
Inside the bus, youngsters can discover a musical touch wall, a colour column, an interactive mood light and a musical hand wall.

The sensory bus’s visit to Silverburn falls during Sensory Awareness Month, which runs throughout October to raise understanding of sensory processing differences.
Aoife was diagnosed with a brain tumour at just 16 months old and went through several surgeries, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a clinical trial, which left her with developmental delay and additional support needs.

While she was having physiotherapy at Yorkhill Hospital after her first operation, Aoife’s dad Michael saw first-hand how a sensory room helped her relax and focus during an incredibly difficult time.

Michael Kidd said: “The bus aims to provide a safe and welcoming space where children can relax, have fun and experience sensory stimulation. It can also offer a positive distraction from medical tests, assessments and appointments, helping to make difficult experiences a little easier.

“What started with Aoife’s journey has become a way of carrying her memory forward and making a difference to the lives of many other children and families.”
