A new "immersive" drone light show coming to Lisburn later this year has been described as a "sustainable alternative to traditional fireworks displays" 🎆

The experience will see hundreds of synchronised drones, narrated by BAFTA-winning TV presenter Michaela Strachan, transforming the skies above Down Royal Racecourse.

The event is listed as being family-friendly and neurodiverse-friendly.

Space Safari: The Drone Light Show will feature a unique fusion of storytelling, technology, and live entertainment. On Saturday, September 5, the night sky above Down Royal will come alive with hundreds of synchronised LED drones, choreographed to a cinematic soundtrack and guided by epic narration.

They help create a mesmerising aerial journey through space and the animal kingdom, delivering a truly unforgettable multi-sensory experience.

As well as the drone show, those in attendance can enjoy an evening of entertainment including live tribute acts, fairground rides, face painting, street food, and family-friendly activities.

The event organisers said it comes as "demand grows for more sustainable and inclusive forms of entertainment", with the light show delivering spectacular visuals without loud explosive bangs, making it a more considerate experience for wildlife, pets, young children, and neurodiverse audiences who may find traditional fireworks overwhelming.

A NEW playground has been opened in a Dublin community just in time for summer.

With the good weather setting in and school holidays in full swing, many kids will be heading outdoors to enjoy the sun.🌞

Fingal County Council has now opened the new playground at Laurel Lodge Green, in a boost to the Castleknock community.
The playground, which was constructed at a cost of €346,000, is set to provide a much-anticipated recreational facility for the area.
It was developed in line with Space for Play - A Play Policy for Fingal, in response to community demand for a safe and engaging play space for children.
It is designed for kids up to 12 years of age, and located beside the mature trees at the centre of Laurel Lodge Green.

These blend seamlessly with the surroundings, enhancing the green space while preserving its natural character.

According to the Instagram page , the site has a number of accessible play areas.
The page wrote: "It has wheelchair accessible play spaces, sensory play panels, climbing areas, a sand pit area and basket swing!"
Alongside this, there are complementary amenities such as a drinking water fountain, bicycle parking and seating areas.

Welcoming the opening of the playground, Acting Mayor ClIr Ted Leddy said: "I'm delighted to see this fantastic new playground delivered for the residents of Laurel Lodge.
"It represents a great result for the local community, providing a safe and welcoming space where children can play, families can come together, and people of all ages can enjoy the outdoors.
"It's a valuable investment that will benefit the area for many years to come."

The new site is expected to become a popular area for the Laurel Lodge community, offering a vibrant space promoting outdoor activity, social connection, and wellbeing.
Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, added: "This project demonstrates our continued commitment to investing in high-quality public spaces that support healthy, active and connected communities.

Farmer John ‘moo-ving’ ahead with ‘Silent Dairy Farm & Machinery Show’ in aid of Lisanally Special School.

The idea came after six-year-old son Josh, who is non-verbal autistic, had a 'brilliant' day at a sensory car show, prompting John to seize upon the idea but transfer it to a farmyard setting.

A County Armagh farmer is currently ploughing his efforts into staging a rather unique event, which will provide new experiences for children and adults with disabilities while raising money for Lisanally Special School.

John Faloon, from Tassagh, is working in conjunction with Diverse Minds Events in putting together a ‘Silent Dairy Farm and Machinery Show’.

It is due to be held on the farm of his father-in-law, Stanley Livingstone, on Sunday, August 16.

John seized upon the idea after he and his wife, Christina, took their six-year-old son Josh, who is non-verbal autistic, to a ‘sensory car show’ at Slieve Donard in Newcastle, Co Down.

He told Armagh I : “It was aimed at people who struggle to go to things with big crowds and with big noises and all the rest that comes with that, that maybe people struggle with.

"We left that car show thinking that was brilliant and what can we do? I'm from a farming background, so I thought to myself we could do the same only with the farming sector.

"This is an open dairy farm and machinery show and it is aimed at kids and adults with any disability out there, anybody that has suffered from anything, and their families as well.

"My father-in-law is a large contractor and dairy farmer out between Killylea and Benburb, so we're going to have this on his farm, working closely with Gail at Diverse Minds Events, who is helping us run the whole thing."

Billed as a ‘silent’ event – “apart from the cows mooing!” – the special fundraiser will give visitors an insight into a working farm but in a relaxed setting.
