LET’S BE CONTROVERSIAL 💣
Learning Smarts v Practical Smarts: Which Really Matters in Leadership 🤔
We often hear about the importance of being “book smart’ 📚 - having all those qualifications and certificates. But in the real world, especially in leadership, does that really hold up?
Sure, having a solid EDUCATIONAL background is great. But real leadership is about PRACTICAL smarts - navigating chaos, making quick decisions, and connecting with your team.
There’s plenty to learn here - the foundations but practical will deliver the real growth.
I’ve seen leaders with diplomas who crumble under pressure because they can’t adapt. On the flip side, I’ve worked with people who didn’t have fancy CV’s but excelled because they could read a room, inspire their team and pivot when necessary.
Practical smarts means you’ve MADE MISTAKES - lots of them. It’s about falling down 9 times and standing up 10. This kind of intelligence can’t be taught in a classroom, it is earned through EXPERIENCE, grit, and perseverance 💪🏻.
Learning smarts gets your foot in the door, but practical smarts keeps you in the room and helps you succeed.
So, what do you think?
Are we placing too much emphasis on traditional education in leadership roles? It is time we start valuing real-world experience.
