It is predicted that aroud 1.5 million households in England that are at risk of flooding are not prepared.

Regardless of where you live and your risk of flooding, you should be prepared, even if this means simply signing up for flood warnings and alert.

It is better to be over-prepared that not be prepared at all.

Autumn is very much underway and we are seeing the trees rapidly losing their leaves, but where do these leaves go?

Many go down drains and into gutters, causing them to block and not function as they should.

We have experienced a lot of rain over the past week in the UK and more likely than not we will be seeing more rainfall in the foreseeable future.

Make sure that you are checking your drains and gutters and clearing them from any leaves & debris that may be blocking them. This will allow water to freely leave your property, reducing your chances of flooding.

Flood water can be extremely strong.

On average, an elephant weighs 4,000kg, which is equivalent to about 3.5 cars.

It is vital that you get out of floodwater as soon as you can and it is safe to do so, to reduce your risk of injury.

Water. We depend on it for survival. We are drawn to it because of its beauty. Yet, it is one of the most dangerous forces on the planet.

It takes only 6 inches (15 cms) of fast-moving flood water to knock an adult off their feet.

If you are being , try your best to stay out of the water & move to higher levels where possible. Not only can flood water sweep you off your feet but it is often contaminated with sewage, animal waste and other contaminants.

Day 5: Haydock to Carlisle ✅

Jonnie has officially made it halfway through his challenge. 👏

to StormMeister Flood protection for being the of this leg and for coming out to meet Jonnie.

StormMeister's conventional flood doors use compression (passive) seals that rely on handle pressure to resist rising floodwater. This makes the doors difficult to operate and therefore liable to fail due to the excessive strain that is placed on the seals and locking mechanisms. StormMeister flood products are completely different, working to utilise the water pressure instead.

In fact, our flood doors are the only flood protection products on the market that have been fitted with Active Flood Seals activated and maintained by the pressure of floodwater. Unlike conventional flood doors that are only flood sealed around the bottom StormMeister flood doors are flood sealed all around the door. All of our products have been developed in-house and are protected by StormMeister™ patents in the UK, Europe, the United States and by copyrights and design rights throughout the world.

Day 4 complete ✅

Jonnie cycled from Ludlow to Haydock yesterday in the 29 degree heat 🥵. Some of our team at Watertight met up with him at the finish line (with beers and ice lollies) alongside some members of one of his chosen charities, Slow The Flow. for coming out to meet Jonnie.

This leg of his cycle was kindly by Aquobex. Aquobex was formed in 2010 when John Alexander & Gavin George got together to design and patent the world’s first floodproof door for the UK market.

Obtaining the assets of Flood Guards System Limited enabled Aquobex to go to market with a proven flood barrier and flood door portfolio that was added to with products from trusted partners to offer the first “one-stop shop” product set and delivery of surveys, installation and maintenance solutions.

Developing our 7-step flood mitigation process in 2010 whilst supporting the SMARTest project with Manchester University eventually led to Aquobex becoming Aviva’s accredited flood risk partner in 2019.

Further product developments mean Aquobex now has 6 granted patents, a portfolio of nearly 100 products and a partner channel of over 30 partners offering the broadest set of solutions for Property Level Resilience, mobile flood barriers, Suds, drainage, glass flood walls, curtain walling and much more.
