CAUSEWAY CUSTOM — DAY 3

Build day.

We took delivery of a limited-edition Shimano GRX groupset in polished aluminium, perfectly complementing the silver leaf on the frame.

The vision for this bike was simple.

If we were going to cycle around the world — or, more realistically, take the long way home from Newtownards to Bangor — we wanted something reliable, repairable and built around luggage.

A bike using easily sourced parts and spares. Something that could keep rolling, even when the road disappeared and the nearest bike shop was a very, very long way away.

Three days. A whole host of local craftspeople. One very special Causeway Custom.

And a pretty good reminder of why we love making bikes.

CAUSEWAY CUSTOM — DAY 2

The freshly finished steel frame headed to the hills on the outskirts of Belfast, where our long-term friend Johnny got to work on the paint.

He talked us into a baby blue colour scheme with silver leaf branding — a decision he may have questioned slightly while trying to apply such a delicate material!

A clear coat of lacquer finished everything off, protecting the frame while really bringing the blue paint and silver leaf to life.

Causeway Custom

Back in the summer of 2022, we decided it was time to get a little more hands-on with the production of bicycle frames.

With a talented local craftsman right on our doorstep, it felt only right to partner up and create a steel version of our Causeway GR1 — a true Bike For Life.

What followed became a three-part mini documentary, bringing together as many local craftspeople as possible to create something genuinely unique.

CAUSEWAY CUSTOM — DAY 1

We met Owen from Donard, whose workshop is just a few miles from our warehouse in Newtownards.

Owen talked us into a blend of Reynolds and Columbus tubing for the front and rear triangles before getting to work cutting, mitring, brazing and welding the frame together.

We paired the finished frame with a Dedacciai carbon fork from Italy, ready for the next stage of the journey.

Great to see our Fustle bikes out there doing exactly what they were made for. 🔥

The Borderlands was an EPIC day out. With the Galway Gravel Grinder, Tae in the Pot, Lakelander Gravel Grinder and plenty more like it coming up, that’s before we even dip our toes across the pond… There’s a LOT of gravel still to be ridden this season (and there’s a rumour of a few more Fustlers hitting the Ulster Cyclocross league this winter) 👀

How good to see more and more seriously strong women pushing the pedals and getting stuck into the gravel scene. 💪🔥

We loved riding Borderlands alongside Mandy Collie from Pactimo Cycling Clothing (until She left us for dirt)!

— The real joy for us as co founders and ‘very’ part time cyclists lately is seeing all the Fustles out there in the mix.

Bring on the next event . 🤘
