Another pond de-silting project completed in the Chichester area. This one was done in collaboration with Arborworx tree company, which proved to work really well to deliver the job. Following on from getting Ecology sign off, extensive willow and vegetation clearance was required to gain access, this was done using a combination of felling and chipping, and excavator flail mulching. Before cleaning it out and relocating approx 300m3 of silt out to the back field to settle, and eventually be spread and reinstated. After speaking to our colleague Clive Gray, we discovered he was just finishing off building a 6 tonne class Amphibious excavator, and agreed to provide its first outing on our job. We are so pleased we did, as it worked perfectly, especially with the tilting hitch, which makes life easier and enables you to clean and cut the banks out much easier. A great service as always from Clive, including his low loader driver, getting it into us to suit our programme perfectly, and with an incredible operator Tamas Tamas Pal Molnár who made light work of it, and soon had it turned around with us. We left plenty of cover for wind screening, shelter and habitat behind the pond, As well as intentionally leaving plenty of brambles as a source of summer food for the wildlife. We look forward to seeing it fill and naturalise over the winter, before bursting back into life in the Spring. Many thanks to all involved.
