The recent deluge has meant the pipe from our gutter to our secondary water tank had come unattached, we therefore needed to go up onto the roof of our barn and reattached it. [All of the water we use in the house is from rainwater harvesting, the barn is our backup if we ever run out of water from the tank that is collected off the house roof - not much danger of that at the moment]. Up on the roof was an amazing collection of thick cushions of mosses and lichens. I love the little trumpet horns.
I'm starting to get slightly obsessed with mosses - I have a new commission from National Trust as part of their Riverlands project across two of their sites; Heddon Valley and West Challacombe Manor. I will be taking two groups of young people to both sites to collect words and write wetlandy-things starting next month. But first research . . . on Friday I had a site visit with the ranger team to West Challacombe managing to dodge all the rain.

Having had a fantastic afternoon telling Devonshire Folktales at Teignmouth Library, followed by a cuppa and a chat with some of the audience - I took myself off to the Back Beach. I tell a brief tale of the Teignmouth women who worked the salmon boats in the late 1700’s and I wanted to see for myself where they might have worked. Weather couldn’t have been better.
A big thank you to the staff at the library for inviting me and making me feel so welcome.

So excited to be telling more Devonshire folktales at Teignmouth Library A couple of new tales will get their first telling 🤩

Stories and folktales from Devon, Dartmoor and Exmoor reimagined and retold. Travel Devonshire through time and landscape. Be whisked away to the high moor or plunged into the swirling sea. Hear the tales of ordinary folk that breath life and wonder into our sense of place.

We are so excited to be spending the afternoon of Wednesday 12th March, 2-3pm, with Katy of Courage Copse Creatives, listening to local stories and tales. Katy is a storyteller, poet and creative producer of Courage Copse Creatives. CCC is a small woodland enterprise based in the Taw Valley, North Devon. (Find out more at couragecopse.co.uk)

Tickets £4* in Teignmouth Library, or buy online at https://DevonshireFolktalesTeignmouth.eventbrite.co.uk/
*plus booking fee if bought online.

The final part of
Taking down the exhibition- it took nearly four days to put up, under two hours to take down and put the canoe on the roof of the car.
Next stop . . . can a site performance be reimagined for an indoor space, and toured across the South West?

". . . . and so we have come to the end, which might also be another beginning."
We did our final performance of Going on Taw (in its current iteration) as part of Fringe TheatreFest What a joy to be part of the festival, rubbing shoulders with SO many talented performers and artists, run by an incredible team of volunteer and the inexhaustible and brilliant Gill Nathanson and Bill Buffery
We did three performances - two outside Queen Anne's Cafe, battling with the wind on Friday and one indoor at The Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon . Fantastic audiences on both days.
If you didn't get to see the show, the exhibition is still in the museum until 6th July and all SEVEN of our podcasts can be found on Spotify.

Had a lovely afternoon telling Devonshire Folktales out on the green in front of Barnstaple Library. A wonderful cross section of ages from young children up to elderly proof that storytelling is applicable for everyone 🧡
