✅ Use lighting timers to make your home look occupied.
✅ Don't leave keys or valuables visible from outside.

🌧️ HAS YOUR BURGLAR ALARM WEATHERED THE STORMS? 🔒

After a weekend of strong winds and heavy rain, it’s worth giving your burglar alarm a quick check.

🏠 A few simple things to look out for:

✅ Check your alarm control panel for any unusual fault or tamper messages.

✅ Visually check your external alarm bell box for obvious damage or loose fittings.

✅ Make sure any previous mains failure warnings have cleared following the restoration of power.

✅ If your alarm isn’t operating normally, arrange for it to be checked.

⚠️ Never attempt to access an external bell box at height or open electrical equipment yourself.

Regular servicing helps keep your burglar alarm working reliably throughout the year.

🎃 Halloween: Keeping Your Home Secure

With Halloween approaching on Saturday 31 October, there’s a good opportunity for CTB Alarms to share practical advice about unexpected callers and home security.

West Midlands Police has recently highlighted safety concerns surrounding Halloween and Bonfire Night. Its existing guidance recommends using door viewers or video doorbells and reminds residents that they don’t have to answer unexpected callers.

🎃 HALLOWEEN IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER! 🔒

Halloween is a great time for families and children, but with more people calling at front doors, it’s also worth remembering a few simple home security precautions.

🏠 Keep your doors and windows secure, even when you’re at home.

🔔 If you have a video doorbell or CCTV, make sure it’s working correctly.

💡 Ensure your outdoor lighting is working, especially around entrances and pathways.

🔒 If you’re heading out for Halloween celebrations, remember to set your burglar alarm.

👻 And remember, not everyone wants trick-or-treaters calling. Please respect neighbours who would rather not participate.

A few simple precautions can help everyone enjoy a safe and happy Halloween.

🌧️ STORMY WEATHER – IS YOUR BURGLAR ALARM PREPARED? 🔋

With strong winds and heavy rain affecting the West Midlands, it’s worth remembering that power cuts can affect your home security.

Did you know that most professionally installed burglar alarms have a rechargeable backup battery designed to keep the system operating during a mains power failure?

However, these batteries don’t last forever!

⚠️ A few things worth knowing:

✅ A healthy backup battery helps keep your alarm operating during a power cut.

✅ An ageing or faulty battery may not provide sufficient backup.

✅ Regular servicing helps identify deteriorating batteries before they become a problem.

✅ If your alarm displays a battery fault or mains failure warning, don’t ignore it.

🔒 When was your burglar alarm last serviced?

At CTB Alarms, we can check your system and ensure everything is working as it should.

🎃🔐 Halloween is approaching – who’s at your front door?

With Halloween just around the corner, many households will be expecting a few extra knocks at the door!

But here’s a useful reminder: you should always feel comfortable knowing who’s outside before opening up.

🏠 A few simple home security tips:

✅ Check who’s calling before opening your door.

✅ Use your video doorbell or door viewer if you have one.

✅ Keep side gates and garage doors securely locked.

✅ Make sure your outdoor lighting is working properly.

✅ Remember to set your burglar alarm when leaving home, even for a short time.

And if you have elderly relatives or neighbours who don’t welcome unexpected callers, it’s worth checking they’re comfortable with their home security arrangements.

💨 Storm Austen is on its way – is your home security ready?

With the first named storm of the season expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain later this week, it’s worth giving your home security a quick check.

🔐 A few things to look out for:

✅ Check your outdoor burglar alarm bell box for any obvious damage or loose fittings, safely from ground level.

💡 Make sure your outdoor security lighting is working correctly.

🚪 Secure garden gates, garages and outbuildings.

⚠️ Check your burglar alarm keypad for any outstanding faults.

🏠 Following severe weather, don’t ignore any new alarm faults or warnings.

Outdoor alarm equipment is designed to withstand the British weather, but ageing components, damaged seals and deteriorating fittings can sometimes cause problems.

If your burglar alarm develops a fault, we’re here to help.

⏰🔐 The clocks go back next Sunday – but will your burglar alarm?

On Sunday 25th October, the clocks go back an hour as we return to Greenwich Mean Time.

Here’s something you might not have thought about!

🏠 Does your burglar alarm automatically adjust its clock?

Some older alarm systems don’t, meaning the time displayed on your keypad and recorded in the system’s event history could be incorrect.

While you’re checking the clocks around the house, it’s worth checking a few other things too!

✅ Check the time displayed on your alarm keypad.

💡 Adjust any security lighting timers.

🔐 Make sure your alarm is setting correctly.

🔋 Don’t ignore any outstanding faults or battery warnings.

📱 Check that your alarm app is working correctly, if fitted.

If you’re unsure whether your alarm should update automatically, we’re always happy to advise.
