This creature uses a whole set of Laws of Nature that support system reliability. We grouped the laws into 12 classes, covering the main functions systems need. That classification can be a useful shortcut when a solution is needed urgently.
But the turtle's innovation surprised me: it seems to use the entire set of reliability-focused laws at once. That’s a strong sign that BioTRIZ got it right! Of course, other laws can also improve reliability, but these basic ones appear to be the most efficient in the context of staying reliable and safe.

Why isn’t learning from Nature Advancing Faster?

Biomimetics is not slow because the idea is weak. It is slow because it reveals the fragmentation of modern knowledge. The 50 Laws attempt to create a meta-level framework beyond discipline, scale, and complexity. If we succeed in building a system where mechanics, chemistry, AI, sociology, and biology speak the same structural language we will accelerate not only biomimetics, but the responsible evolution of technology itself.

Instead of dismantling education, we may overlay a unifying systems layer across disciplines. And this is where things become truly interesting.

Why do we need the laws of nature? Geometry in school teaches how shapes and volumes interact. In nature, geometry creates capability.
An asymmetric shark fin generates lift. Teardrop bird bodies reduce air resistance. Rounded surfaces shed water. Conical structures on cicada wings repel droplets. Form drives function.
Understanding how geometry works in living systems gives learning real meaning. Key principles include Symmetry and Asymmetry Balance, Nested Packaging, Curves Spheres and Spirals, Another Dimension, and Use of Nature’s Forces.
In upcoming posts, I will explore these laws and the vast geometric solutions used by living organisms, far beyond what we apply in daily life or engineering.

Crises are not clearly visible in nature. Everything looks pretty organised, and natural harmony amazes us. But this harmony is the result of permanent crisis-prevention processes. The environment changes, social structures constantly change, and conflicts happen—but they are often not visible. Why? Because there are mechanisms that resolve crises almost immediately after they are recognised. Nature has specific methods for recognising crises and prepared anti-crisis strategies. These mechanisms are presented using ant colonies as an example in the book "Biomimetic Management" - that can be called as nature’s systems engineering manual. We decided that such methods for crisis management deserve to be a separate law of nature (number 49), with included rules for implementation. A very brief introduction to this law is in this video:

This beetle is only 3mm size... Bit it is a special character! I am so impressed with its personality that decided to draw it to introduce this creature to you not as a pinned collection item, but a living creature. The legs of a weevil are like those of other insects, but the way their joints connect to the body is unique. It resembles a “screw” and “nut,” allowing the beetle to move its leg in different planes for better mobility. This is especially helpful for climbing and moving around, particularly on trees.

The weevil’s leg joint is designed so that the articulating process has a “thread” and rotates inside a rounded structure that looks like a “nut.”

I always thought that System Theory perfectly explains the complexity in living nature. Indeed, how I could doubt, if the founder of System Theory is a biologists: Ludwig von Bertalanffy. But when I started to develop the course on System Theory I suddenly realise that Living Systems have some important and game changing features. I put my thoughts into this small video.

Fundamental Living System Theory is where biology, technology, and business thinking all come together. It gives us a common language to understand complexity...
