We are back in Soho Square! This time with the wonderful Linda, workshopping a fictional but very familiar scenario: asking for a pay rise when you have taken on extra responsibility.

It is a conversation that many of us can relate to, and we explore how boosting assertiveness can help achieve better results.

What are your assertiveness tips?

Just landed in Soho Square and kicking off our next round of street coaching, this time focusing on assertiveness!

Claire and Cameron join us as we explore what assertive communication looks like in practice and share a few simple, practical tips you can use right away.

Stay tuned for insights and a little surprise along the way! 😊

Walking through Soho and thinking about how much our environment shapes the way we communicate. The noise, the pace, the energy all influence how we show up in conversations.

A simple thing to try today: notice what is happening around you before you speak and see how it affects your tone or presence.

On the move to our next People People coaching spot, where will we end up next?! 👀

We bumped into these incredible chaps and went through another one of our choices for voices! 💛

This episode of People People Pops is all about picking the most important word in a sentence and giving it a little lift in pitch. It’s a simple trick that can completely change the impact of what you’re saying.

As Alexander says here, it’s a good way to express yourself (with intention)!

Go forth and try it out today!

My wonderful colleague checked in with me about how it’s all going... and though this sits outside the usual People People Pops, I think a bit of vulnerability can be a learning tool.

When I first started getting out on the streets interviewing and coaching in our signature People People way, I faced a lot of rejection. Everyone has places to be after all! It reminded me of the acting industry and how familiar that experience can be for many of us.

But here’s the thing: this process has taught me the value of taking a breath and using the voice to convey confidence, which in turn helps me engage with people.

It’s not always easy. It’s hard work. But we keep showing up because sometimes there’s real gold, and there's the joy of being able to help people.

More to come next week, but here’s a little glimpse behind the scenes.

New episode of People People Pops from Carnaby Street! This one’s all about pace.

See how speeding it up or slowing down can totally shift the energy or meaning in the simplest of sentences!

We’ve all got these choices sitting inside us. So next time you’re chatting, pitching, or presenting, try playing around a bit pace.

Some of you may not know this but I speak a bit of German (🤫) and it was lovely to use it with Iram and her family, who were visiting from Köln… just before we hit record!

In this video we talk about how nerves can show up (maybe as a voice crack or our focus slipping.)

One way to shift the focus away from nerves is to lean into the choices we do have. Be clear about what really matters in what you’re about to say, and then allow a pause so it can land.

Simple, but powerful.

A quick bit of coaching here with the incredible Julian and Aaron. This simple vocal trick shows the power of choosing just one word to stretch within a sentence.

Actors use this all the time to convey feeling and increase impact. Yet in everyday life we often don’t think about it. What if we did?

What words could you add more weight to in order to tell your story... whether in a presentation, a pitch, or even a simple catch-up?

Today in People People Pops, is time to show a fun bit of live coaching with the wonderful Piedro, who we just met here in Carnaby while visiting on holiday.

We tried out a quick and simple tool that can also be fun, all about using the vocal variety in our voices.

This simple trick can change the impact of the words you speak!

I’m out on the street coaching in the latest segment of People People Pops on Carnaby Street, and this time I’m joined by the wonderful Emily and Helen.

In this video we’re looking at intention. Actors use this all the time with a tool called Actioning. It’s about deciding how you want to come across and holding onto a single active verb to guide the impact you make.

Think of words like:
✨ I engage you
✨ I inspire you
✨ I calm you

Emily and Helen try it out here. Have a watch and then think about the words that would be most useful for you.

Once you’ve found a word that works for you, test it out in a low-stakes setting. For example, try holding onto “I inspire you” when suggesting to your partner where to eat 😂

Do you ever find yourself speaking, yet feeling like no one really hears you? While the roots of that experience can run...

Do you ever find yourself speaking, yet feeling like no one really hears you? While the roots of that experience can run deep into social, cultural and psychological domains we don’t always have control over, a few simple ideas here can give you a whizz of autonomy. 🔑
