A couple of weeks on, we're still buzzing from our experimental gathering in London.

Looking back at the photos is a reminder of just how powerful it was to see brilliant people from such different sectors lean into curiosity, share openly, and think divergently together.

The conversations didn’t just spark lightbulb moments - they illuminated entirely new ways of seeing.

We're so grateful to everyone who came, and can’t wait to build on this momentum when we meet again in November.

Meet Ian Cameron – Our New Chief Exec for North America! 🌎

We recently announced that Ian Cameron has joined the Data Clan team as Chief Executive for North America. Here’s a bit more about Ian and what he brings to the Clan…

📍 From Lockerbie to California
Ian grew up in the small Scottish town of Lockerbie and has called California home since the 1980s. After many years in the fast-paced San Francisco Bay Area, Ian now enjoys life in the picturesque coastal town of Cambria, famous for its stunning beaches and vibrant local community. 🌊

🏆 A Leader On and Off the Field
Ian’s leadership journey spans industries and sports:
· A lifelong coach and mentor, Ian once coached five adult rugby teams at the same time.
· A passionate Lawn Bowls player, Ian competes nationally - you might spot him wearing a few medals.
· A high-level sportsman, Ian represented varsity rugby from his freshman year and remains tenacious about both sport and industry.

🍎 A Teacher at Heart
With 20+ years in professional development and training, Ian thrives on simplifying complex problems through visual thinking. He’s been operating virtually for over 15 years, perfecting the balance between remote leadership and meaningful human connection.

🏡 Life Beyond Work
Outside the boardroom, Ian’s passions include:
· Photography (especially from his time with a 150-person Samba troupe!)
· Maps and cartography (ask him about the first thing he buys in any new place!)
· Keto and wellness advocate
· A deep love for Edinburgh, Northern California, rivers, the sea, and small country towns.

🤝 Long-Term Collaborator
Ian brings a rich history of collaboration, having worked alongside Data Clan co-founder Chris for over two decades. With Ian’s diverse leadership experience, coaching spirit, and global perspective, we’re excited for the impact he’ll make driving Data Clan’s growth across North America! 💚

Chris and Ian enjoyed a rare opportunity to meet face-to-face last week, catching up in the bustling heart of New York City. Both were in town to attend an OSCRE event.

Between insightful sessions and lively networking, Chris and Ian took the chance to exchange ideas, share updates, and strengthen the collaboration that’s been driving their work together at Data Clan. It’s not often that busy schedules and travel plans align, so this in-person meeting was a real highlight.

Our CEO, Chris Lees, was in Bradford last week for a great client meeting, and took some time to enjoy a couple of the city’s landmarks!

📍 First stop: the magnificent Bradford City Hall - one of the finest examples of Victorian Gothic architecture in the UK.

🎥 Then a quick visit to the Science and Media Museum, home to fascinating exhibitions on the science of light, sound, and the moving image.

We love connecting with our clients across the country - and it’s always a bonus to see a bit of the local culture while we’re there.

From Friction to Acceleration: A Shift in Building Safety Oversight

A few weeks ago, Chris Lees spotlighted a critical tension in the UK housing sector: the unintended consequences of the Building Safety Act creating bottlenecks in project progression, particularly for buildings under 18m. His post resonated across the industry — highlighting that while safety is paramount, regulation must be enabling, not paralysing.

It seems the Government may have been thinking the same thing!

In a major policy shift, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has announced reforms to the Building Safety Regulator, including the regulator's return from HSE to the MHCLG. The goal? To accelerate housebuilding, reduce red tape, and prepare the way for the regulator’s role to evolve into a single construction regulator.

Chris' article questioned the cost and delays of inefficient regulation on delivery — and now, that very friction is set to be eased. The new leadership will hopefully take a more modern view on the role of data in regulation. It could be a win for evidence-based safety — and for those, like Chris, who’ve been advocating for it.

MHCLG's Alex Norris' desire to 'create a system that works for the sector' whilst keeping residents safe still must learn from the mistakes of the HSE and lean into the digital world we now live in.

As the sector digests this news, one thing is clear: when policy listens to operational reality, everyone wins — especially the people waiting for safe, affordable homes.
