in 1928, Princess Mary was shown around the slipways and Drawing Offices by Charles Payne, General Manager of the Yard. Thousands of people lined the streets to see Princess Mary, the daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, as she took in the sights and sounds of the yard. 🛠

1879 📆

Thomas Millar was born.

Millar worked on the construction of Titanic and joined White Star Line as an assistant deck engineer for the maiden voyage. Before he left Belfast, he gave both of his young sons two new pennies, telling them "Don't spend those until I see you again". Sadly he did not survive the sinking.

Many years later, his granddaughter Susie Millar wrote a book "The Two Pennies" which provides a unique insight into how the tragedy affected ordinary lives, in particular those of Thomas Millar's two sons.
