Doing a bit of 'moving and shaking' last night at an event held in the Irish Joint Secretariat premises in Belfast, on behalf of the Anglo-Irish Friendship Group. Met a good few influential and helpful people whilst lobbying on behalf of the work we do in Argyle Business Centre.

Applications are now open for Baroness May Blood Third Level Education Bursaries for the coming academic year 2025/26. Closing date is end of June 2025. All details on front page of the Argyle Business Centre website: abcni.net

This month we have been shining a spotlight on women's history through our social media and events, recognising the contribution of women like Mary Ann McCracken.

Mary Ann strongly believed in the power of education in breaking the cycles of poverty, and the Foundation set up in her name continues to honour that legacy through their ongoing work. This includes the support of initiatives like the Baroness May Blood Educational Bursary Awards, organised by the Argyle Business Centre, in collaboration with Ulster University.

These awards honoured the legacy of Baroness May Blood, a spirited advocate for education, social justice and community development in Northern Ireland. Twenty eight exceptional individuals from the Greater Shankill Area were awarded with bursaries to support their educational aspirations.

As part of this event, The Mary Ann McCracken Foundation provided a grant of £1,000 to create a Mary Ann McCracken Bursary Award within the Baroness May Blood programme of recognitions. The aim of this Bursary was to alleviate the financial barriers to third level education or university faced by a student aged 18 years from the Greater Shankill Area, Court Ward or Oldpark Ward of Belfast City Council, therefore allowing them to progress in their education. A cause very close to the hearts of Mary Ann McCracken and May Blood.

The first recipient of The Mary Ann McCracken Bursary Award of £1,000 went to Ellie McCracken to support her Foundation Degree studies in Art & Design at Aberdeen University.

We would like to wish Ellie all the best in her future career.
