Woman-to-Woman Sexual Violence: Does She Call It R**e? Northeastern Series on Gender, Crime, and Law. Feb 2002
by Girshick Lori B.
"Drawing on a nationwide survey and in-depth interviews, Girshick explores the experiences of seventy women and how the le***an community has silenced survivors of sexual violence due to myths of le***an utopia, and considers the role of the society. This provocative book offers how agencies can best provide services and treatment to survivors of woman-to-woman r**e and le***an battering, using suggestions by the survivors themselves"

We know r**e is a national crisisโ€”but we're missing one glaring side of the story.

(Reprinted from "Gender & Society," 3, pp. 457โ€“473) "The authors explore the connection between r**e on campus and fraternities. To do this, they discuss an alleged gang r**e at Florida State University that involved fraternity members. They also address how fraternities foster a sociocultural environment conducive to r**e; specifically, they discuss how the process of pledging, an emphasis on drinking, and the practices involved in perpetuating a sense of "brotherhood" foster a hypermasculine culture that may be supportive of the sexual assault of women"

Catholic Democrats & the Sexual Violence Scandal

With the Pennsylvania grand jury report, which highlighted clergy sexual abuse in that state, this week has been difficult for so many. As we have for years, we will continue to work for accountability within the Catholic Church. But we know so many are hurting today, and we want to offer solace, too. To that end, we thought you might find this America Magazine article that asks us to find comfort in the Feast Day of St. Maximilian Kolbe and the Assumption of Mary in times of trouble.
