Ben-Morton.com I believe that leadership isn't about what you do, it's about who you are and the values that define you. I help people to be better leaders. Why?

THE WHY
I believe that great leaders take care of more than just
what happens when they're at work. I help them
consider all aspects of life to strike the right balance
and achieve peak performance, personally and in work. Because every person we lead is the most
important person in someone else's life. How we act
and behave doesn't just affect those we lead whilst at
work; we also impact how they

are with their loved
ones. Fundamentally, I believe a leader's job is to deliver the
results AND look after those they lead

ABOUT ME
I'm a leadership mentor and performance coach
with a unique background. As a former Captain in the British Army, I have led
people in life or death situations. My experience has taught me that leadership is a
great privilege and responsibility. Fundamentally,
leadership is less about the tools and models and
more about understanding what it truly means to
be a leader. From the battlefield to the boardroom
and beyond. I've led expeditions worldwide, and my
experience spans from the battlefield to the
boardroom, giving me a unique approach to
cultivating teams and helping individuals reach
their full potential. For the past ten years, I've worked with senior
leaders to help them lead their teams to
great success. I have a track record of helping
MDs and CEOs move their teams from good to
great, and beyond.

Most leaders know what conversations they need to have.

They just keep not having them.

Tomorrow I'm spending the day with leaders from King's College London - working on exactly that.

Feedback that actually lands.
Conversations that actually happen.

Flipchart's ready, final prep done.

I talk about the power of a handwritten thank you note in almost every programme I run.

So when the last Samsung Unboxing Leadership course handed me this, it mean a lot.

We've all heard "it's the thought that counts."

I'm not sure that's quite right.

Thoughts are free. Effort isn't.

Anyone can think kind things about someone. Very few people sit down, pick up a pen, and write them down...and then actually send it.

That's what makes a handwritten card land so differently to a WhatsApp message or a quick email. It's not the medium. It's what the medium signals.

It says: 'I stopped. I made time. You were worth it.'

As a leader, the way you show appreciation to your team matters more than most people realise. Not the grand gestures. The small, deliberate ones.

If there's someone in your team who deserves a thank you this week, don't just think it.

Write it down. Post it.

It'll take you five minutes. They'll remember it for years.

140km. 2,000m of climbing. 22 hours and 20 minutes on my feet.

The Ridgeway Challenge. Done.

That first photo isn't the start. That's dawn breaking after running through the entire night. One of those moments I won't forget in a hurry.

The hardest leg wasn't the final miles. It was checkpoint three to four during the brutal midday heat, stomach playing up, knee starting to complain. Everyone at that 4th checkpoint was feeling it.

But this time I knew what to do.

The biggest lesson from my first ultra: stop and deal with problems early, while you can still fix them. Don't push on hoping they'll pass. They won't.

I recovered well. Felt strong in the second half. Finished 29th overall and 9th in my age group.

And that medal moment at the finish arch? Worth every single step.

That lesson isn't just for ultra running, by the way. 😉

Thank you to my wife and daughter for popping up in unexpected places ro cheer me on, my good friend for doing the same. You made a real difference out there.

And a final thank you to mu running companion for almost the entite race...a 26 year re-union with an Army friend I first met when we were just 16 years old.

Final, final thanks to - a brilliantly organised event with an awesome team of staff and volunteers.

86 miles tomorrow.

Final preparation and triple checks.

Race kit ✅

Halfway drop bag — full kit change and mental reset ✅

Support bags for the family and a good friend meeting me at checkpoints ✅

There's something about laying it all out the night before. It's always been this way for me...probably the soldier in me still.

The preparation is the confidence.

Now I resting up.

Four busy weeks and a very busy week.

So before diving back into a few more bits of work, I took ten minutes to pause.

No emails.
No scrolling.
No rushing to the next thing.

Just sitting in the sunshine, being present and letting my mind settle for a few minutes.

I think many of us underestimate how important those small moments are.

Not quitting.
Not escaping.
Not 'not being productive'.

Just creating enough space to think clearly again.

Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is slow down for a moment. ☀️

Another brilliant couple of days wrapping up an Unboxing Leadership programme with Samsung.

A genuinely fantastic group to work with, with people joining from right across Europe.

Engaged. Curious. Challenging in all the right ways.
The kind of group that asks thoughtful questions, shares openly, supports each other and brings real energy into the room.

There was plenty of laughter along the way too… which, in my experience, is usually a sign that people feel comfortable enough to learn, contribute and be themselves.

Thank you to every single person in this group for the way you showed up across the programme. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with you all and learned a lot from you too.

Thank you also for the lovely thank you card! 😁😍

Yesterday's final long-ish run before I take on the 86-mile Ridgeway Ultra.

And this was the full rehearsal.

Everything laid out here is what I’ll be carrying or using on race day.

The pack.
The poles.
The waterproofs.
The lights.
The fuel.
The “just in case” kit

I learned long ago that events like this aren’t just about fitness.

They’re about preparation.
Testing systems.
Learning what works.
Responding to problems early before they become big issues...much like in leadership.

Now the goal is simple…

Recover well.
Stay healthy.
Arrive fresh.

Preparation LeadOn

A few more pictures from my first Ultra-Marathon last week.

One image was about 13 km in.

The other was around 47km when I was feeling a little less spritely!

Can you tell which is which?

Thanks to Runaway Racing for a great event.
