Can you spot the hidden cost building up along that road? Most people clock the accident on day one and miss everything that follows. A driver without a vehicle, a hire car ticking away with no confirmed end date, a repair that's been "ongoing" since before anyone thought to ask when it would actually be finished.

Ten days in and most fleet managers couldn't tell you what that claim has cost their business or when the vehicle's coming back. Think about the last one that dragged on longer than it should have. How far through would you have got before you lost track of the number?

The cost of a badly managed claim doesn't announce itself the way a premium increase does. It turns up in credit hire that ran three times longer than it needed to, repair bills no one thought to challenge, and fault decisions that quietly settled when they shouldn't have.

None of it shows on the premium line, but it's still coming out of your budget.
