This home now has 11.63kWp of JA Solar Paneks paired with 3 x Tesla Powerwall 3 Batteries — giving an estimated 10,176 kWh of Solar generation a year, with around 70% of that used directly on-site.

The Battery setup has been sized specifically to maximise time-of-use charging through the winter months, so the homeowners can top up on cheap overnight rates and use stored power when it’s needed most, even when the sun isn’t shining as much.

Ofgem’s new price cap lands this week, and it’s expected to push bills to their highest point in three years from October. Wholesale gas costs have jumped sharply over the past few months, and energy debt across the UK has now passed £6bn.

There is some help coming — VAT on electricity bills is being cut in October, which should trim around £50 off a typical annual bill. But for a lot of households, that’s a drop in the ocean against a bill that’s still roughly 70% higher than before the energy crisis began.

The households who are best insulated from these swings are the ones generating and storing their own power. A Solar and Battery system doesn’t stop wholesale prices moving, but it does mean less of your bill depends on them.

Completed a great job near Stratford-upon-Avon — adding 2x Tesla Powerwall 3 batteries (27kWh) to an existing solar system.
This is one of the questions we get asked most: “I’ve already got solar, can I still add a battery?”
Answer: yes, and it’s often one of the best upgrades you can make. Instead of exporting spare daytime power for pennies, it gets stored and used in the evening when electricity actually costs something.

You may have already seen the news last week — electricity VAT is being cut from 5% to 0% from October, taking around £45 off the average yearly bill. Wanted to flag it here too, along with a deadline that matters more if you’re considering Solar or a Battery.
0% VAT on Solar Panels and Battery Storage is a separate relief, and it’s only guaranteed until 31 March 2027. After that it goes back up to 5%.
It’s the completion date that counts, not the order date — so if you want the saving, the sooner you get booked in, the better.
