Smoke alarms can give someone the few extra seconds they need to escape in a fire. Did you know that the average smoke alarm has a lifespan of just ten years and then needs replacing.
To keep your alarms in working order:
- Make sure there is at least one smoke alarm on every level of your home
- Test your smoke alarms by pushing the button every month
- Check that your smoke alarms are less than 10 years old
- Change the batteries every year. Never remove them.
- Fit smoke alarms in the right place - on landings and hallways and near bedrooms. Also consider fitting them in rooms which have electrical appliances – e.g. a heater or charger – or other fire risks
- Take a moment to check on your loved ones who may need help to ensure they’re fully protected.
You can book a safe and well visit for a fire safety advice, check that your smoke alarms are working and replace or install new ones if needed: https://orlo.uk/XG5Ci See less

Today, Wednesday 9th September, we join the nation in honouring those who have lost their lives serving our communities for Emergency Services Day (999 Day). At 9:00 am, we'll hold a two-minute silence to remember the dedication and bravery of emergency service personnel.
We invite you to join us in this moment of reflection. Today, we'd also love to hear your messages of support for the emergency service personnel who continue to protect our communities every day.

Last night the Bidford crew paid a visit to our local gliding club. This enabled our development firefighters to become familiar with aircraft construction and airfield emergency procedures.

One of the glider owners even invited the us to sit in the aircraft, it’s was a tight squeeze but we managed 😂

Many thanks to Bidford Gliding and Flying Club for giving us a guided tour and answering our questions 🚒✈️🚒

🏕️ Planning a camping trip this August Bank Holiday?
With dry weather increasing the risk of fire, we're asking everyone to take extra care when camping, whether you're staying at a festival, campsite or enjoying the countryside.
🔥 Keep camping stoves and gas canisters well away from BBQs and other sources of heat.
🔥 Do not use disposable BBQs. They can remain dangerously hot long after use and can easily start fires if placed on dry grass or disposed of incorrectly. Never use BBQs, cooking equipment or gas appliances inside tents or enclosed spaces.
🔥 Never leave cooking equipment unattended and always ensure it has fully cooled before moving or disposing of it.
🚬 Extinguish ci******es completely and dispose of them responsibly. A discarded cigarette can quickly ignite dry grass and vegetation.
Let's all do our bit to prevent fires and keep ourselves, fellow campers and Warwickshire safe this Bank Holiday weekend. See less

A small fire can start in seconds – but the consequences can last a lifetime.
What might seem like harmless curiosity or ‘something to do’ with friends can quickly turn into something much more serious.
We’re asking parents and carers to have open, honest conversations with children about the risks.
Even if they’re part of a group, choosing to set fires or being present when it happens – can still lead to serious consequences.
Please remind children:
Never to play with fire
To leave the area immediately if a fire is started
To tell a trusted adult
To call 999 if a fire starts
Fire setting can put lives at risk, harm wildlife and the environment, and have lasting impacts on those involved.
