The future of the security canine sector cannot be shaped without listening to the people who are actually out there doing the work. Dog handlers are at the heart of the security canine sector.
They understand the realities of training, deployments, operational pressures, dog welfare, safety, pay and the day-to-day challenges that come with working as a professional security dog handler.
That is why the General Purpose Security and Patrol Dog Handler Survey is now OPEN.
The S12 Security Guarding Leadership Group want to hear directly from:
General Purpose Security Dog Handlers, Patrol Dog Handlers, Advanced General Purpose Security Dog Handlers, Former dog handlers working in the security guarding sector and individuals working in directly comparable security roles
The survey is looking at:
Handler experience
Operational practice
Welfare and wellbeing
Safety and assurance
Pay and industry expectations
YOUR EXPERIENCE MATTERS.
This is an opportunity for frontline handlers to have their experiences heard and to contribute to a broader conversation about where the sector is now — and where it needs to go next.
The findings will help provide a strong foundation for broader, sector-wide discussion through the Canine Specialist Workstream.
We don't want assumptions about what handlers experience. We want to hear it from the handlers themselves.
If you currently work as a security dog handler, have previously worked in the sector, or work in a directly comparable security patrol role, please take the time to complete the survey and make your voice heard.
THE INDUSTRY NEEDS HIGHER STANDARDS.
HANDLERS NEED A VOICE.
EMPLOYERS NEED ASSURANCE.
CLIENTS NEED CONFIDENCE.
And none of that happens without honesty, evidence, transparency and engagement from the people who actually do the job.
