🎟️ After organising a few activities for a business anniversary event a couple of months ago, I was pleasantly surprised to open my emails to a plethora of "thank you" notes!

It made my day 😁

🌟 So I grabbed a few of them and put them together as a reminder to myself that I do do a good job!! Putting a smile on my customers' faces is a such a rewarding way to provide a service!

🏆 In July I attended the West Midlands PA Awards and what a night it was! A three-course-meal and fantastic entertainment including a live band that didn't stop moving all night - walking the room so that everyone go to enjoy their amazing music between courses!

I didn't win but I was a Finalist and got my own framed certificate that now sits proud of place on my "business shelf"!

🥳 Such a great achievement having been a finalist having been in business just over a year!

🚀The time just flies by!

I’ve been to networking events in the past where I’m wishing the time would hurry up but at Brum Buzz those 2 hours whizz by and I’ve realised I’ve not been able to speak to eveybody!

I did catch up with some regular faces though and I’ve followed the Buzz 3-2-1 principle and spoke to (at least) 3 new people today!

Managed to take a few selfies this week but I need longer arms 😂

🤩 It's 6 months since I became Ambassador for Business Buzz!

When I first started networking, to say it was daunting is an understatement! I was so nervous on my first session that I spilt my drink on the floor whilst juggling holding too many things and trying to hold a conversation at the same time! 😂

But it didn't matter, I was amongst friends and I was put at ease and I came back the next time! Roll on a few months and I looked forward to going and meeting new people to find out about their businesses! I was asked to become an ambassador and the team was going through some change and now it's 6 months later!

🤝 Networking may not be for everyone, but I knew it was key to growing my business to get out there and start building relationships. So I've found a group that suits me! Relaxed atmosphere where I can just turn up and start having conversations (no pitch involved!) I help to organise and promote the events which means I get to turn up for free and can still meet new businesses and make great connections!

If you're interested, we meet at The Rep every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 10am! Come along for a cuppa and say hi 👏

⛏️What are your favourite business tools/apps?

When it comes to online businesses you need some good reliable tools to help make things runs smoother. 3 tools that I'm loving at the moment are Microsoft Teams Clockify and Canva!

💬 Having my own Microsoft subscription means Teams comes with it, and 75% of my clients use it as well meaning it's a no-brainer when it comes to online meetings - no more Zoom time limits! It's also quick and easy to use the chat function to ask a question that doesn't warrant a phone call - meaning I can get an answer quickly and efficiently especially if it involves a quick glance at a document or sharing a link!

⏲️ Clockify, if you're not familiar with it, is a tool that I use for tracking my hours. When I've done a piece of work for a client I make a note of the time spent on it in this app, or I can start and stop the clock to time the task. It's web-based so I usually have it open whilst I'm working, and I have the app on my phone too so I can use the timer function that way - especially if I forget to stop the timer when I close my laptop! At the end of each month I can see where my time has been spent and pull off reports to accompany my invoices if needed. So simple, but very effective if I want to check/refine productivity. It's also free and integrates with my calendar!

🎨 And Canva is a firm favourite because of the creativity it allows me! Not only can I create images for my own social media, but I use it to help my clients with their marketing too! I'm not the best when it comes to design but Canva has so many templates and ideas that it doesn't take me long to get into it!

👋 I've been wanting to post on here for the past couple of weeks since I'm getting back into work mode, but just couldn't find the words! So why not take it back to basics and tell you a bit about me and perhaps a few things people probably don't know about me?

So who is Cat?

👩🏻‍💻I'm a Virtual Assistant and I live in Birmingham with my hubby and two sons aged 9 and 4. I've been very lucky and have taken most of August off work to be able to go on a wonderful family holiday and spend time with the kids during the school holidays. It certainly beats the juggle of work vs kids! And Cat is short for Catherine.

So I've grown up in Birmingham and love it here; I've lived here all my life apart from 3 years at uni in Stoke-on-Trent! I love to travel and take loads of photos - I was the one at school taking photos with my little red box camera! I love to dance and did ballet, tap and acro from age 4 until about 13 and took part in competitions winning lots of medals and trophies 🏆 I love to walk in the woods and parks near where I live, which brings me onto ....

3 things about me you may not know

🌟I run an Instagram account dedicated to the Parks of Brum - a simple idea I had in semi-lockdown when I was out and about, where I wanted to share photos and info on the fantastic parks Birmingham has to offer - did you know that Brum has over 591 parks and green spaces?

🌟 I have my tongue pierced! It's not an obvious piercing and is not often noticed. I remember asking my mum if I could have it done when I was 17 and she said no (sorry mum!). So when I moved out to uni a year later, I went and did it! Yes I was influenced by Scary Spice!

🌟An elephant came to my wedding! I got married in Thailand and the elephant marked the beginning of the ceremony! She was late!

Working in the office again today or rather WeWork in Brum!

Coworking is such a great idea for me. Great to have a chat to start the day off and then knuckle down to some work! I was really productive today, ticking lots of tasks off the to-do list!

I went for a walk in the week up Clent Hills not far from me and enjoyed the glorious views!

Even though it was raining on and off it was great to get out and have a change of scenery. It was also great to meet up with a friend and sample the yummy sausage and egg sandwiches - they lived up to their reputation!

I keep putting off going out for my walks and then wonder why, when I actually get out there! So here’s to me setting myself the goal to get out for an intentional walk at least once a week!

A year in business!

🤩 It’s been a whole year since I officially registered as self-employed! How quickly that year has gone by!

I started out as a bit shy, not sure how it was going to work but knew if I applied myself then things would develop! And now a year later, I’m already doing so much better than I anticipated.

🟣 I’m nearly at my goal capacity
🟣 I earned a bonus for exceeding a client’s client’s expectations (yes the client of a client!)
🟣 I’m shortlisted for a VA award

I am a hard worker and when I want something I am determined and committed to getting it - this I have always known deep inside but have never really thought about it let alone talked about it.

So here I am stepping out of my comfort zone and talking about something that I am proud to have achieved for myself! I’ve never been overly confident so taking time to remember my achievements is a tool I’ve learned to help me with this.

Went to work at WeWork in Birmingham last week - great way to end the week 😁

It was exciting to be working in a cool place, so relaxed and comfortable but a space to let the ideas flow! This was my view for a few hours!

My client (and friend) introduced me to the place and I’ve got to say I’d love to go more often - so we are going to meet there once a month 👍 and go for lunch too, there are so many great restaurants to choose from!

Has anybody else tried WeWork or any other coworking spaces?

🤩 I'm really excited to announce that I've been nominated in this year's West Midlands PA Awards.

I've been in business for just under a year, and the time has gone so fast. I'm enjoying all that the VA life has to offer right now, so to have this nomination confirms I made the right decision to go for it last year!

It makes me giggle when I see something like this. There must have been such careful thought and design put into the wall sign and then to realise there are spelling mistakes in it - ouch! Maybe they didn’t realise??
