For some people, an e-bike is more than a convenient way to travel. It can mean getting to work, attending medical appointments or staying connected to friends and family.

Merseyrail is planning to enforce a ban on non-folding e-bikes, which could make those journeys harder, particularly for older and disabled riders. Safety matters, but blanket bans are not the answer.

Today's Budget brings welcome progress on business rates, with Small Business Rates Relief extended to properties with a rateable value of up to £18,000.

It's a positive step for indies, many of whom have been under growing pressure from rising costs.

Bira have been pushing for action on business rates, and today's announcement is progress. But with employment and energy costs still weighing heavily on businesses, there's more work to be done.

We'll continue to make the case for independents and the high street they keep alive.

Independent retailers: is your website protected?

A critical security flaw affecting PHP has triggered an urgent warning from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), with businesses urged to act now.

PHP powers many websites, including sites built using popular platforms such as WordPress, and WooCommerce. You may be using it without even realising it.

Bira is urging all independents to contact their website hosts or IT provider as a priority to check whether their website is affected and ensure the necessary security updates have been applied.

You don't need to be a technical expert, but you do need to ask the right questions.
