🏆 I’m incredibly proud to share that 1st Call 4 Service has been shortlisted for Best Customer Service Team at the Print Industry Awards! 🎉

Customer service isn’t just a phrase to us — it’s what we’ve built our business around.

For the past 24 years, we’ve been supporting HP Latex and DesignJet customers, helping keep businesses running and, when things go wrong, making sure there’s someone at the end of the phone who can help.

We’re a small family business, and that’s something I’m particularly proud of.

Behind 1st Call 4 Service is Lynn, who keeps everything running on the admin side, and George, our up-and-coming service engineer, who many of our customers will already have met. It’s fantastic to see George developing his skills and becoming an important part of the business and the next generation of our service team.

Before setting up 1st Call 4 Service 24 years ago, I spent over 16 years as a service engineer working for major companies. That experience gave me the technical knowledge, but more importantly, it taught me what customers really need when their equipment isn't performing.

And our commitment to customer support has recently been recognised in another really exciting way.

Over the last six months, HP has recognised the level of customer support we provide by appointing 1st Call 4 Service as a restricted reseller for new HP Latex printers, allowing us to offer customers new Latex printers, warranty support and consumables.

For us, this is a huge vote of confidence in the knowledge, experience and customer service we’ve built over the last 24 years.

To now also be recognised as a finalist for Best Customer Service Team at the Print Industry Awards is a huge honour — especially for a small family business like ours.

𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗨𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀

This week we were back in Manchester helping Explosive Graphics upgrade their production capabilities with the installation of an HP Latex 800.

The installation wasn’t without its challenges. The printer had to be lifted approximately 4 metres onto a balcony using a telehandler before being carefully manoeuvred into position. Thanks to good planning and teamwork, everything went smoothly and the machine was installed safely and efficiently.

The HP Latex 800 wasn’t a brand-new machine, but a fully inspected, serviced and tested ex-demo unit. For many print businesses, ex-demo equipment offers an excellent opportunity to access newer technology without the cost of buying new.

As part of the project, we also removed an HP Latex 335 and an HP DesignJet 5000. The DesignJet had clearly given many years of loyal service and was certainly ready for a well-earned retirement.

One of the biggest advantages of this upgrade is the reduction in running costs. The HP Latex 800 benefits from 3-litre ink supplies, significantly reducing the cost per litre compared with the smaller cartridges used in the older Latex 335.

When you combine the lower purchase price of a professionally serviced ex-demo machine with the ongoing savings on ink, it makes for a very attractive investment.

A special thank you to Jon and Baz for their help throughout the installation. We’ve had the pleasure of supporting Jon and the team for more than 10 years, so it’s always rewarding to see the business continue to grow and invest in new technology.

Long-term customer relationships are at the heart of what we do, and it’s great to see customers benefiting from practical, cost-effective upgrades that help them stay competitive.

A great throwback to 2001!

This photo was taken when I started working for Imation, part of 3M, covering HP warranty support on CAD and large-format graphics printers across the UK.

The picture was taken during training on the HP 5500 DesignJet, alongside five other engineers and our trainer. At the time, this was cutting-edge technology and an exciting introduction to the world of large-format printing.

Over the past 25 years, HP technology has evolved enormously. The HP 5500 has long since been replaced by newer generations of printers, including the HP Latex range, now in its fourth generation, delivering major advances in print quality, productivity, and technologies such as Pixel Control.

I’m curious to know whether anyone recognises themselves or anyone else in this photo. It's been 25 years, and I've unfortunately lost touch with the team.

Today I was at Kolorkraft Professional Imaging Ltd installing and providing training on their new HP Latex 630 printer for Stefan , along with SAI Flexi RIP software, which is included free with the printer.
The inclusion of Flexi RIP provided an immediate benefit, saving the customer the cost of purchasing a replacement RIP solution for their previous HP Latex 360, which had become outdated and has now been decommissioned.
Kolorkraft has been a valued customer for many years, with our relationship going back to the days of their HP DesignJet Z6100 in 2017. It's always rewarding to see long-standing customers continue to grow and invest in the latest technology.
For this project, the decision was about much more than the price of the printer. The key factor was the ongoing one-to-one support that 1st Call 4 Service will provide moving forward, alongside competitive pricing on HP inks and consumables. After 15 years of reliable service, it was time to retire the old HP T790 Designjet printer at INSULATION & CLADDING SERVICE

ICS has been a valued customer of 1st Call 4 Service Ltd for 15 years, and in 2011, Les supplied and installed their original Designjet printer, which has served them well on-site ever since — supported by regular maintenance from our team.
As the printer became increasingly difficult to support due to the unavailability of obsolete parts, we worked closely with ICS to ensure a smooth transition before any unexpected downtime could occur.

Following a quick discussion and within just a couple of days, we de-installed the old machine and installed a brand new HP T850 Designjet Printer. Not only does the new T850 offer modern performance and reliability, but its footprint is also significantly smaller, freeing up valuable office space while keeping their projects moving efficiently for years to come.

After a small amount of training with HP Click software, the customer rapidly improved the speed and efficiency of printing their drawings.

To complete the installation, we also removed all packaging, pallets, and the old printer for responsible recycling and disposal.
A big thank you to ICS for their continued trust and loyalty over the years — it’s always appreciated.

Great week at 1st Call 4 Service Ltd, installing CAD printers for customers across the region.
Today, we visited NLT Electrical Ltd, specialists in commercial and industrial electrical installations, to replace their trusted HP DesignJet T730 Printer, which we originally supplied refurbished back in 2015.
After 11 years of faultless service, the printhead finally failed this week, so after discussing the options with the customer, we upgraded them to a brand-new HP DesignJet T850 large-format CAD printer.
The installation and training were carried out by Les from 1st Call 4 Service Ltd, with Zoe and Nathan really impressed by the setup and training on HP Click, which is set to streamline their CAD printing workflow moving forward.
To finish the job properly, we also removed the old printer and took away all packaging for recycling.
Another successful installation completed and another happy customer.

Another old machine was swapped out today by the team at 1st Call 4 Service 👌

We installed a brand new HP DesignJet T870, replacing an ageing HP DesignJet T790 that had given the customer 12 solid years of service onsite.

Along with the install, we set up HP Click to help speed up their day-to-day printing and improve workflow straight away.

Old printer removed, all packaging taken away and recycled, and the new machine fully installed and ready to go the same day ♻️
