ZIM CARTOONS FOR ZIM KIDS 🇿🇼
I travelled to Dubai, The United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) 🇦🇪 for the first time in February 2016 and later again in December 2016. On the 2nd trip, I stumbled onto this kids animated programme on U.A.E television and the image below has never left me.
Immediately I saw that cartoon programme, I suddenly thought,
"This is what we have to do for Zimbabwean children!" 💡 It was a for me!
You see, growing up in Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 in the 80s and 90s we watched a lot of animation from either the UK 🇬🇧or USA🇺🇸. I also recall there were what where called Czechoslovakia Cartoons on Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corpofation ZBC). The US and UK cartoons taught me a lot but I recall as a child, looking at the rolling credits after all the cartoons and I used to be bamboozled and fascinated by the unreadable Czechoslovskian names, I felt the names had so many squiggles and apostrophes that made my 7, 8,9, 10, 11 year old me stumble 😂!!! If you know me very well, you know I REALLY tried to read those names with all my mind, PHONICS and strength!
So why did I pen this this morning? I have penned this because cartoons for Zimbabwean kids are on my mind.
🤔WHAT SHALL I DO ABOUT CARTOONS FOR ZIMBABWEAN KIDS?
💎I feel we need animation for Zimbabwean kids by Zimbabwean animators/ cartoonists.
I am not schooled in animation yet but I loved and I LOVE ❤ ANIMATION TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!
1️⃣Who is teaching Animation or cartoon art in Zimbabwe?
2️⃣Where can I learn animation courses in Zimbabwe?
3️⃣What online platforms can I learn animation from whilst in the UK?
4️⃣Who could I meet in the U K who could help us have for the first time,
5️⃣Will there come a day when Zimbabwean Cartoons are shown in UK and USA and the young children over there will stumble over reading an 'unreadable' name such as Shumirai Tsitsi Mazombe? Honestly that would be coming full circle innit? I pray this happens in the next 10 years not coming from a spiteful place but from a space of wanting Zimbabweans to rise uo and take their place in animated storytelling and education. That would be fabulous if I can live to see be a doorway for other children and nationalities to know about our great nation and heritage as THE PEOPLE OF ZIMBABWE.
Just random, random thoughts in my head right now.
