πŸš¨πŸ‘€πŸ‘€ CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸš¨

We're working on a journal about civic architecture in Birmingham - looking back and forward, we'd love you to take part! Deadline 17th January.

Details on the holodeck website (link in bio):

BACK TO THE FUTURE

A forward looking journal about past-futures, modernism, architecture, and town-planning in Birmingham.

WHAT IS THE JOURNAL ABOUT?

Did modernist architecture and post-war town planning embody a hopefulness for a better and more just future, or is it culpable for the creeping dominance of the private car over the pedestrian/cyclist, and the replacement of communities with monolithic housing estates in the sky?

Where did modernist ideas get us? which of them remain valid? why have we turned our backs on so many of them? What does futurism look like today? How can radical architecture and planning help to solve today's problems?

Back to the Future is a journal exploring the future of the built environment, and how we may rekindle the collective imagination that ignited the modernist movement, to envision how Birmingham might take shape over the coming century, longer.

This is an invitation and a provocation to dream bigger, about the places we're creating, with a particular focus on Birmingham.Β

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are seeking contributions of various kinds - essays, poetry, photographs, plans, illustrations and more, on the topic of, or topics related to: Birmingham modernism, planning (or lack of), architecture, civic identity, and the future of the City in respect of these ideas.Β

Please email us your submissions, thoughts, and ideas to [email protected] by January 17th 2021.Β

PRINTED MATTERΒ

We will design and produce a printed journal in Spring/Summer 2021. This will be a limited edition production. All contributors will receive a copy, and further copies will be made available for local libraries and collections, for public access. An online digital version will also be made available.

By contributing to the journal, you are consenting for your work to be reproduced in print and online.Β

Make sure you get a ticket and support live music in this sh*tbag of a time. The artwork I *believe* is by the band, but correct me if that's wrong.

Here's a letterpress poster we designed and printed for festival in . It's made using antique wooden poster type, a really unusual and phat typeface. The central motif represents sound wave harmonics using overprinted simple shapes. These are 22"x14" and printed in a limited edition of 20. They are Β£40 (unframed). Please send me a DM if you would like one, or pop into and order one (they are stored in my workshop, but I can deliver locally or deep off at artefact for collection).

Starting to plan a limited edition letterpress poster as a reward for the Kickstarter. The poster is being designed around this phat antique wooden poster type. I've been aching to use this type since I found it at a flea market. It will also include geometric shapes and colours, but you'll have to take my word at how beautious it will be! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‰πŸ––Ten acres of sound is a sound art festival taking place in April in Stirchley, by the wonderful people at cooperative. I've been hoping for a festival like this for years, it's going to be super interesting so make sure to check it out, and if you can support the Kickstarter please do, only 6 days left.
