π¨ππ CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS πππ¨
We're working on a journal about civic architecture in Birmingham - looking back and forward, we'd love you to take part! Deadline 17th January.
Details on the holodeck website (link in bio):
BACK TO THE FUTURE
A forward looking journal about past-futures, modernism, architecture, and town-planning in Birmingham.
WHAT IS THE JOURNAL ABOUT?
Did modernist architecture and post-war town planning embody a hopefulness for a better and more just future, or is it culpable for the creeping dominance of the private car over the pedestrian/cyclist, and the replacement of communities with monolithic housing estates in the sky?
Where did modernist ideas get us? which of them remain valid? why have we turned our backs on so many of them? What does futurism look like today? How can radical architecture and planning help to solve today's problems?
Back to the Future is a journal exploring the future of the built environment, and how we may rekindle the collective imagination that ignited the modernist movement, to envision how Birmingham might take shape over the coming century, longer.
This is an invitation and a provocation to dream bigger, about the places we're creating, with a particular focus on Birmingham.Β
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are seeking contributions of various kinds - essays, poetry, photographs, plans, illustrations and more, on the topic of, or topics related to: Birmingham modernism, planning (or lack of), architecture, civic identity, and the future of the City in respect of these ideas.Β
Please email us your submissions, thoughts, and ideas to [email protected] by January 17th 2021.Β
