This Armistice Day, at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month – we will remember them.

The Armistice, an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War as a prelude to peace negotiations, began at 11am on 11 November 1918.
Armistice is Latin for to stand (still) arms.

We will be observing the Two Minute Silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, to remember those who lost their lives ~

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

As today draws to a close, we are excited to share with you what our fellow City Group members over at Sight and Sound Security Head Office have been up to this month...

Crafting a selection of food of African origin throughout the month, the team celebrated with delicious meals - all home made by themselves!

Meals included:

- Jamaican Pepper Shrimp with coconut rice by Steve Tucker
-Goat Curry by Mireille Burge
-Kelewele (Spicy fried plantain) & Peanuts by Yvonne Yvette Darko-Barimah
-Jollof Rice by Kristel Bergstrom-Oyebola

-Jerk Chicken, Rice & Peas by Josie Halliday

CELEBRATING SUCCESS

This is Graham Walton, the Control Room and Special Projects Manager over at our fellow City Group member City Security Services presenting a cup to Paul Sayer, our Cambridge Mobile Driver, in recognition of his hard work.

Graham advises; ” Paul makes himself available to answer questions when off duty and on leave. He has helped pick up shifts, audits, fault finding and communicates in a positive way. He goes above and beyond anything I ask and I am proud to have him as a member of our team.”

Our Senior Operations Manager Russell Brown, joined Group Operations Director Sophie Harper-Booth at a Community Event hosted at
Midland Heart’s Saltbrook Place, last week.

They provided safety and security advice to residents, as well as supplying them with complimentary personal torches.

Russell said ‘Sophie and I really enjoyed the day and things were very positive all around. We developed some contacts and relations to help us improve the service we offer, along with supporting the good work Midland Heart and the other parties involved carry out, helping improve the lives of the residents. We really appreciated this rewarding opportunity to help make a difference.’ ~

Women in Security

Yasmin started with us at Heart recently. She is new to security and keen to embark on a productive career at an assignment allowing her to make a positive difference and embrace the rewarding side of the industry.

Pictured here with Brown, Senior Operations Manager and Client Manager Deborah Brown on her first day, Yasmin navigated the induction process, along with important aspects such as safeguarding and professional boundaries, ensuring residents feel safe and secure in their homes.

Yasmin also joined us at our Community event prior to her first day and is looking forward to being part of Charity events in the future and learning more about Health & Safety in the workplace.

Deborah has contacted us to let know that Yasmin is already receiving positive feedback from external staff members and has already shown great enthusiasm in her job, as well as the initiative to learn more and recommended her for an Employee Recognition Award.

A big welcome to Yasmin from us all. We are thrilled to have you on board ~

The amazing staff at in Thrapston, organised a collection for our Officer, Andy Gower, who was unfortunately taken ill recently.

The staff collectively donated an overwhelming generous amount of £200 to help support Andy through this difficult time.

Our Senior Operations Manager, Brown, collected the donation from Mark Styles (pictured) then visited Andy at his home, to pass on the kind gesture.

We would like to thanks all the staff at DSV and also join them in wishing Andy a speedy recovery back to health, we hope to welcome you back soon ~

Putting the Heart in Midland Heart

Our team spent the day with our client and Midland Heart’s Coventry Foyer residents, to help increase their social skills and enhance community spirit. Planting fruit and veg, bulbs ready for next Spring, and learning basic DIY and enjoying refreshments supplied by us, a productive, informative and most importantly fun time, was had by all!

We have received some absolutely fantastic feedback from the Centre Manager at Idlewells Shopping Centre in Sutton Ashfield, praising our Security Manager, Michael Storer.

He said -

‘I would like to let you know how impressed I am with the Security Manager here, employed by GR8.

Michael showed incredible professionalism on the morning of July 27th helping to avert what could have been a terrible and potentially life-threatening situation.

To summarize, we received a fire signal and Michael, accompanied by Kurtis Sossou, followed procedure to investigate the activation before we entered our evacuation phase. The area was in a plant room that required significant effort for him to get there in time but, he succeeded. Upon arrival, he discovered that one of our compressors had caught fire and after passing the evacuation order to control, and having assessed the situation, he discharged a CO2 extinguisher and managed to extinguish the fire. The subsequent centre evac was caried out with perfect precision and we were commended by the attending Fire Service Watch Commander for our swift response.

Michael’s actions, both during, prior to, and after the situation were without doubt, some of the most professional I have encountered in my 26 years’ in the business -

• Professional training delivered to the Idlewells team concerning evacuation, providing perfect preparation for situations such as this.
• Daily adherence to the “tango” designations each member of staff has in the event of an evacuation, so they know their duties.
• Swift response to emergency alarm.
• Perfect assessment of situation, and application of all that he has learned.
• Superb management of situation through effective communication
• Perfect de-brief to myself and Fire Service
• Reports collated and submitted without delay

If your company operates any formal recognition schemes I would wholeheartedly endorse Michael.’
