Solent former naval base redevelopment gets the go-ahead!

PJA provided transport planning support for the redevelopment of the former HMS Daedalus Naval Base in Lee-on-the-Solent.

‘Daedalus Waterfront’ is a 42-acre site which will provide a mixed-use community including nearly 350 homes, employment space, and a new home for The Hovercraft Museum.

The consented proposals will maintain and restore many of the historic buildings, bringing this space back to life.

As part of our PJA Academy training arm, this week we hosted a webinar that dived into the role of Active Travel England (ATE) six months after it became a statutory consultee, focusing on advice for planners.

With an incredible turnout of over 60 participants, our webinar navigated through the influence that ATE has. We shared our experiences and key takeaways from our first-hand engagement aiming to equip planners with invaluable insights, ensuring that our collective knowledge benefits all.

We may have narrowly missed out on the Consultancy Team of the Year Award at Insider Media West Midlands Property Awards 2023 (congratulations Cadence Projects) but as consultants on the River Rea Regeneration, Birmingham, project we were ecstatic to see St. Modwen Developments and West Midlands Combined Authority win the Sustainability Award! Great work team.

PJA supports Mansfield District Council - My Mansfield in ‘trail-blazing’ new Design Code.

Mansfield District Council formally adopted the Design Code last week, with the aim to improve the look and feel of buildings, streets and open spaces in the town centre.

One of 25 local planning authorities selected to pilot the development of Design Codes, the council was awarded £120,000 to fund the project, and PJA were part of the team to deliver the Code.

It has now been identified as an example of best practice, and PJA continues to support Mansfield District Council in monitoring how effective the Code is and inform the development of Design Codes across England.
