Would you like to be a Outreach Worker at Maggs?
Nixie one of our Outreach Worker has told us about what her role entails
" I started at Maggs as a volunteer in the clothing project and the day centre. I went on to be a support worker within the day centre, and have also been part of the tenancy sustainment team during my time here.
Within this role I go out and engage with people experiencing homelessness and work with them to resolve their barriers to housing and other support networks. I enjoy the person-centred and open-ended approach I get to take within this role, as it recognises that not everyone is the same, or fits the same structure of support. I help them with issues around benefits, bank accounts, mental health, physical health, accommodation, and much more. I also get to continue working with people once they have found housing, as for many of them it is their first tenancy. This reduces the risk of them becoming homeless again as I can support them with budgeting, independent living, and tenancy sustainment. Everybody's individual goals are different, and I enjoy supporting people to achieve them. It is great to be able to empower people to become independent and overcome challenges they would have initially struggled with.
I really feel as if I have experienced every project we have, and I have met some incredible people whilst working here. However, since I began at Maggs, it has been my goal to become a paramedic, which I am now pursuing. I start my apprenticeship with the West Midlands Ambulance Service soon, and whilst I am excited, I am sad that I am leaving such a worthwhile organisation, and a brilliant bunch of colleagues. I've enjoyed working here so much that I have actually stayed for a year and a half longer than I originally planned, but the time has now come to pursue my career in the ambulance service."
