The History of L – P
L – P : Archaeology was founded on town planning expertise, and has grown into a nationwide practice covering all aspects of commercial archaeology. L – P was formed in 1999 when the Lawson Price planning and development closed down. Lawson-Price was one of the leading town planning practices in Britain throughout the 1980s and 90s – where it pioneered the field of environmental and archaeological consultancy.
The Lawson Price archaeology section management took the leap and bought out their department to form L – P. It wasn’t an easy transition, but several key clients stayed loyal to us helping to ensure that the new business survived. After a few months, the business was growing again, recording 50% growth in the first year.
After a couple of years, we expanded into the North West, setting up our second office in Chester in 2001, building on the legacy of Lawson-Price in the city. It paid off, allowing us to consolidate the projects that we were already undertaking in the region.
L – P was initially set up as a partnership, but as the business grew it became evident that we should turn into a limited company and issue shares to the partners. L – P : Partnership became a limited company in August 2002.
