๐Ÿšจ Its Global Asbestos Awareness Week.

Despite a full ban in 1999, asbestos exposure is still the cause for over 5,000 work-related deaths every year across the UK and Ireland.

Workers are still at risk - this week focuses raising awareness of asbestos risks and the importance of safety.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง The Health and Safety Executiveโ€™s Managing and working with asbestos ACOP continues to provide practical requirements for compliance with The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and The Control of Asbestos Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช In December 2025, the Health and Safety Authority published an updated code of practice for asbestos, which must be followed under the Safety, Health and welfare act at work (exposure to asbestos) regulations 2006-2025 in Ireland.

It's World Wildlife Day! ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒฑ

World Wildlife Day is recognised on March 3rd every year, established by the UN to raise awareness of wild animals and plants and to recognise their vital role in our ecosystems.

It's also a great opportunity to reflect on some of the legislation in place to protect them, including the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Organisations need to be aware of protected species and take responsibility for minimising environmental impact through their business activities.

You can find out more about at https://bit.ly/47nKJl1. What initiatives have your organisation taken to look after the environment?

From the 1st October 2026, a new tax will be placed onto new major residential developments in England ๐Ÿ—๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Why? - This initiative is being introduced as an effort to shift the financial burden of fixing life-critical safety defects away from leaseholders and taxpayers and onto developers.

The amount of tax to be paid will be calculated based on:
Residential floor space โœ–๏ธ specific area rate per metre squared.

Will this tax affect your developments? Be prepared and familiarise yourself with the rates, exemptions and inclusions here:

Did you know that today is often referred to as 'Blue Monday'? It's easy to feel overwhelmed in January, so let's pause and reflect on the importance of understanding mental health in the workplace.

Under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, employers must ensure the health, safety and welfare of employees, so far as is reasonably practicable. This duty extends to protecting the mental health of employees.

The Health and Safety Executive has set a list of standards that when managed well, can help to avoid poor health, low productivity and absences:

โžก๏ธ Demands
โžก๏ธ Control
โžก๏ธ Support
โžก๏ธ Relationships
โžก๏ธ Role
โžก๏ธ Change
