Among the most celebrated official Bowmore releases ever produced, this remarkable 38-year-old single malt was distilled on 14 January 1957 and bottled nearly four decades later from just five bourbon hogsheads, cask numbers 216–220. Released in the mid-1990s, it was one of the oldest and earliest vintage Bowmores ever offered by the distillery and remains a landmark bottling in the history of Islay whisky.

Matured in Bowmore’s legendary No.1 Vaults, the whisky was bottled at its natural cask strength of 40.1%, with the casks reportedly rescued just before falling below the legal minimum bottling strength. Presented without colouring or chill filtration, this release yielded only 861 bottles, making it exceptionally scarce even at the time of its launch.

The Bowmore 1957 38 Year Old is revered for its extraordinary elegance and complexity. Long maturation softened the distillery’s trademark peat influence, creating a beautifully balanced whisky that combines gentle maritime smoke with layers of tropical fruits, citrus, honey, polished oak and subtle spices. Frequently cited among the greatest official Bowmore bottlings ever released, it remains a benchmark for mature Islay whisky and a true collector's piece from one of Scotland's most iconic distilleries.

Widely regarded as one of the finest official bottlings ever released by Laphroaig, this 30 Year Old emerged at the dawn of the new millennium and quickly became a benchmark for mature Islay whisky. Distilled during an era now viewed as a golden age for the distillery, it showcased a style of Laphroaig that many believe can never be replicated.

Matured for three decades, this remarkable whisky balances the distillery’s unmistakable maritime peat character with extraordinary depth and elegance. Rich layers of dried fruits, polished oak, dark honey and subtle spices intertwine with softened medicinal notes, sea spray and gentle wood smoke, creating a whisky of immense complexity and refinement. Time has mellowed the powerful phenols of its youth, allowing a beautifully integrated and nuanced profile to emerge.

This release is also significant as one of the final great achievements associated with legendary distillery manager Iain Henderson before his retirement, representing the culmination of decades of whisky-making expertise at Laphroaig. It remains one of the most sought-after official bottlings from the distillery.

A true icon of Islay whisky and a cornerstone of many serious collections, the Laphroaig 30 Year Old stands among the greatest long-aged single malts ever bottled.

An independent bottling from the legendary closed Port Ellen distillery, this 19-year-old single malt was distilled in 1977 and bottled by Hart Brothers for their respected Finest Collection series. Released during the early years of Port Ellen's rise to cult status, it captures a style of Islay whisky that has become increasingly scarce and sought after.

Matured for nineteen years before bottling at 43% ABV, this example showcases the elegant side of Port Ellen's character. The distillery was renowned for producing a distinctive combination of coastal smoke, mineral notes and refined citrus fruit, qualities that have made its remaining stocks some of the most collectable whiskies in the world since the distillery's closure in 1983.

Presented in the classic Hart Brothers Finest Collection livery, this bottling represents an increasingly difficult-to-find example of independently bottled Port Ellen from the 1990s.

A lovely old bottle of Bruichladdich 10-year-old, this is an official edition from the early 1980s with a back label celebrating the distillery being named Best Worldwide Whisky and receiving a Double Gold Award from the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 1979. Ironically, despite this success and recognition Bruichladdich was forced into mothballs in 1983 during Invergordon’s shaky tenure.

A remarkable and exceptionally rare Arran 30-year-old single cask bottled to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Lochranza Distillery. Distilled in August 1995, this cask was among the very first filled under the guidance of distillery manager Gordon Mitchell, making it a true piece of Arran history.

Matured for three decades in a second-fill sherry cask, this whisky represents one of the oldest single casks ever released by Arran Distillery. Bottled in honour of the colleagues and friends who helped shape the Lochranza distillery over the past 30 years, this exclusive release is limited to just 150 bottles worldwide.

An incredibly hard to find and historic Arran single malt celebrating three decades of island whisky craftsmanship.

A legendary bottle, the first edition of Black Bowmore 1964 was a 29-year-old Islay single malt whisky released by the distillery in 1993. This bottling did arguably more than any other individual whisky to kick off the renaissance in Islay single malt and catalysed the luxury whisky market at the same time. It's become a bit of a cliche to talk about how this bottle cost £70 upon release in 1993 but it goes to show just what a legendary whisky it is and how important it was as a bottling in formulating the early mentality of serious whisky enthusiasm.

Distilled in 1964 and bottled in 1993 at 50% after 29 years of maturation in sherry casks, the Black Bowmore first edition is one of the all time great Bowmores and one of those drams that needs to be tasted to be believed. This famous first bottling of Black Bowmore 1964 was an edition of 2000 bottles released at a very hearty 50% without an enormous amount of fanfare in 1993 from a batch of 1964 Oloroso sherry casks that has subsequently passed into whisky folklore. A palate of extraordinarily rich, dense, chewy peat and oceans of tropical fruit, this Bowmore deserves its place in the pantheon of whisky history. An absolutely incredible whisky and one of the most unforgettable drinking experiences you'll ever have.

This particular bottle features a well-preserved filling level and the original wax seal. It is important to note that many of these bottles were historically re-worked and resealed with lead capsules by the distillery, as the original wax seals frequently failed or broke. Consequently, this is one of the few examples you will find in such well-preserved condition.

An early bottling of Ardbeg 1975 bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society in September 1990 after 15 years of maturation. Released from single cask #33.10 at its natural cask strength of 54.9% ABV, this bottling yielded just 262 bottles.

Bottled during the formative years of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, this release captures Ardbeg from one of the distillery's most celebrated periods. The mid-1970s vintages have become increasingly revered for their combination of powerful Islay peat smoke, tropical fruit character and remarkable complexity, representing a style of Ardbeg that many consider among the finest ever produced.

By the time this whisky was bottled in 1990, Ardbeg was still years away from the renaissance that would transform its fortunes in the late 1990s. As a result, relatively few casks from this era survived to become official or independent releases, making bottlings such as this highly sought after today.

We've auctioned quite a few early SMWS Ardbeg from the distillery's legendary 1970s vintage period but this is the first time for this 33.10 release.

Distilled in 1974 and bottled in 1995 by Gordon & MacPhail for their Connoisseurs Choice range, this Ardbeg is a great example of the old-style Islay malt that helped establish the distillery's legendary reputation. Released during a period when mature Ardbeg was rare.

The Connoisseurs Choice series has long been regarded as one of the most influential independent bottling ranges in Scotch whisky, with Gordon & MacPhail selecting and maturing casks from many of Scotland's finest distilleries. By the mid-1990s, Ardbeg's 1970s vintages were already gaining a reputation for their distinctive balance of peat smoke, maritime character and remarkable complexity.

Today, these early Connoisseurs Choice Ardbeg releases are increasingly difficult to find. Bottled at a traditional strength of 40% ABV and presented in the classic map-label livery of the era, this is a great example of mature Ardbeg from one of the distillery's most sought-after decades.

An early edition of Ardbeg 17-year-old, which first appeared in 1997 shortly after the Glenmorangie takeover. Assembled originally from stocks distilled before the distillery went into mothballs in 1981, Ardbeg’s 17-year-old was by necessity the oldest entry-level official bottling on the Scotch whisky market at the time. The distillery had made very little whisky during the 1980s and 1990s, but the extraordinary quality and popularity of these 17-year-olds helped spark Ardbeg’s renaissance.

A scarce late-1980s bottling of Ardbeg 10 Year Old, released during a fascinating period in the distillery's history when production was intermittent and stocks from the old Ardbeg distillery were becoming increasingly sought after.

Presented in the distinctive "Guaranteed" label style that appeared on Ardbeg bottlings during the 1980s, this example captures the character of Islay whisky before the distillery's renaissance under new ownership in the late 1990s. Bottles from this era are renowned for their robust peat smoke, coastal character and oily texture, offering a glimpse into the traditional style of Ardbeg that helped establish its legendary reputation.

Official Ardbeg releases from the 1980s are increasingly difficult to find, particularly well-preserved examples such as this. As interest in historic Islay single malts continues to grow, these pre-modern Ardbeg bottlings remain highly prized by both collectors and drinkers seeking to experience a style of whisky that can never be recreated.
