An early bottling of Rowan's Creek Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, produced by Kentucky Bourbon Distillers (now Willett Distillery) in Bardstown, Kentucky. This sought-after release carries the original 12-year age statement and was bottled at 50.05% ABV (100.1 Proof), representing the style that helped establish Rowan's Creek as one of Willett's most respected small-batch bourbons.

The handwritten batch code A-27-82 is significant. Among early Rowan's Creek bottlings, the final two digits of the batch code are widely understood to refer to the distillation year of the youngest whiskey in the batch, making this an exceptionally early release containing bourbon distilled in 1982. With the original 12-year age statement, the bottling would therefore date to approximately 1994, during the brand's earliest production. Early batches are also believed to have included considerably older mature stocks alongside the minimum-aged whiskey, contributing to their rich reputation among bourbon enthusiasts.

Original 12-year Rowan's Creek bottlings are highly regarded by collectors, particularly those with the earliest handwritten batch codes, as the age statement was later discontinued when older stocks became increasingly difficult to source.

Jack Daniel's 1981 Gold Medal is the seventh release in the distillery's Gold Medal series, created to commemorate the award received at the 1981 Monde Selection competition, with the presentation ceremonies held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The award marked Jack Daniel's return to international competition after a 27-year absence, following its Star of Excellence in Brussels in 1954. Much had changed during the intervening years: the Motlow family sold the distillery to Brown-Forman in 1956, while sales continued to grow rapidly, increasing around tenfold during the 1960s and 1970s as Jack Daniel's developed into an internationally recognised Tennessee whiskey.

In 1981, Jack Daniel's entered the Brussels-based Monde Selection's Institute for Quality Selections, where it was awarded the organisation's highest distinction, the Grand Gold Medal with Palm Leaves. The award was presented at ceremonies held in Amsterdam and is commemorated by this special limited edition bottling.

Bottled at 45% ABV, this is one of a series of commemorative Jack Daniel's bottlings celebrating the historic medals and awards received by the distillery.

The Scenes From Lynchburg series was created for the European market, with each release depicting a different scene or landmark associated with the historic distillery and its hometown. The illustrated designs appear directly on the bottle, with the whiskey itself providing the background to the artwork.

A nice old bottling of Booker's 7 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, from batch B94-E-13 and bottled at a formidable 63.2% ABV.

Booker's was created by legendary Jim Beam master distiller Frederick "Booker" Noe, grandson of Jim Beam, and was introduced commercially in the late 1980s. The whiskey was inspired by the uncut, unfiltered bourbon Booker had previously selected from the warehouses and bottled as gifts for friends and associates.

The batch code B94-E-13 provides precise information about the whiskey's production: B denotes the Boston plant, 94 indicates 1994, E represents May, and 13 the 13th day, giving a distillation date of 13 May 1994. With the label stating that the whiskey was aged for approximately seven years, this would place the bottling around 2001 or 2002.

Bottled at 63.2% ABV, equivalent to 126.4 US proof, this is a powerful early example of Booker's, presented in the distinctive wax-sealed bottle with its handwritten-style label. Bottlings from this period are increasingly difficult to find and offer a fascinating example of Booker's before barrel-strength bourbon became the major category it is today.

A magnificent early independent bottling of Ardbeg 1974 from Signatory Vintage, distilled on 10 May 1974 and matured for 17 years before being bottled in March 1992. Drawn from cask number 2026 at 43% ABV, this release yielded 1,200 bottles and represents whisky from one of Ardbeg's most revered production eras, long before the distillery's revival under Glenmorangie in the late 1990s.

During the 1970s, Ardbeg produced a richly peated spirit renowned for combining powerful maritime smoke with remarkable elegance and complexity. The 1974 vintage has become legendary among collectors, with whiskies from this period consistently regarded as some of the finest ever produced by the distillery. Independent bottlings from the early 1990s such as this are now exceptionally scarce, preserving the character of Ardbeg at a time when mature stocks remained relatively plentiful.

Presented in Signatory Vintage's classic dumpy bottle, this Ardbeg is an excellent example of the company's earliest releases. Signatory, founded by Andrew Symington in 1988, quickly earned a reputation for sourcing and bottling outstanding single casks, and these original early-1990s presentations have become highly collectible in their own right. Combining a legendary vintage, early Signatory provenance and increasingly elusive original packaging, this is a superb bottle for both Ardbeg enthusiasts and collectors of classic independent Scotch whisky.

Distilled at the now-lost Lochside Distillery on 15 December 1966 and bottled by Signatory Vintage in August 1989, this 22-year-old Highland single malt is one of the earliest releases from what would become one of Scotland's most respected independent bottlers. Matured in oak casks #7253-7255 and bottled at 43% ABV, it forms part of Signatory's original Vintage Collection, a series that helped establish the company's reputation for showcasing individual distilleries with full distillation and bottling details long before such transparency became commonplace.

Lochside occupies a unique place in Scotch whisky history. Located in Montrose, the distillery was unusual in being capable of producing both malt and grain whisky, although its single malt has become the most celebrated. Following its closure in 1992 and demolition in 2005, official bottlings became increasingly scarce, leaving independent releases such as this among the few remaining opportunities to experience the distillery's distinctive character.

Limited to just 800 bottles this early Signatory release is both a fascinating snapshot of Lochside's elegant spirit and an increasingly collectible bottling from the pioneering years of independent Scotch whisky.

A remarkable bottling of Balblair 1967, drawn from a privately owned cask laid down by the distillery's owner, Bertie Cu***ng, for his family's personal use. Distilled in 1967 and bottled by hand in 1989 at its natural cask strength, this exceptionally scarce release represents whisky produced during the final years of Berties ownership of Balblair, before he sold the distillery to Hiram Walker in 1970.

The provenance of this cask was first documented when we acquired another bottle in 2016, consigned by Bertie Cu***ng's son-in-law, David. Although the cask had been laid down by Bertie, he sadly passed away before it was bottled, with David bottling the whisky in 1989. Following David's passing, two further bottles from the same cask were inherited by another member of the Cu***ng family and have now been consigned to our July 2026 auction, further supporting the documented history of this exceptional private bottling.

Interestingly, while the two recently consigned bottles retain their original labels showing a strength of 70 Proof, the example we auctioned in 2016 had this detail obscured. This was not unusual for bottlings of the period, where generic Balblair labels were often used and the exact bottling strength was of little importance for whisky intended solely for family consumption. You will also notice that the label states the volume as 26 2/3 Fl. Ozs., despite the whisky being bottled in 1989, many years after the industry had adopted the metric centilitre format. This further illustrates that the labels were simply drawn from existing stock rather than specially printed for this private bottling.

Matured for approximately 22 years and believed to be bottled at its natural cask strength, this whisky is expected to display the rich, complex character for which 1960s Balblair has become renowned. Combining exceptional rarity with impeccable family provenance, it represents a unique opportunity to acquire a genuine piece of Balblair's history from the final years of the Cu***ng era.

An extraordinary 4.5 litre bottling of Ardbeg Mór 10 Year Old, launched at the 2007 Islay Festival (Fèis Ìle) to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Ardbeg's renaissance following its 1997 revival. Produced in a strictly limited edition of just 1,000 individually numbered 4.5 litre bottles, this remarkable release contains Ardbeg's celebrated 10 Year Old bottled at its natural 57.3% ABV, without chill filtration.

The name Mór is Gaelic for "big" or "great", perfectly reflecting both the monumental bottle size and the bold character of the whisky within.

An increasingly scarce late 1960s bottling of Macallan 15 Year Old, released by Gordon & MacPhail under their famous licensed distillery label series. Matured and bottled by the Elgin bottler under a long-standing arrangement with Macallan, these semi-official releases were drawn from casks filled by Gordon & MacPhail and aged in their own warehouses, preserving a fascinating snapshot of the distillery's character during one of its most revered eras.

Distilled in the mid-1950s, this whisky captures Macallan at a time when production remained relatively small-scale and the distillery's rich, sherried spirit was already earning a formidable reputation. Bottles from this period are becoming increasingly difficult to source, particularly in such well-preserved condition.

A particularly charming feature of this example is the original retailer's price label on the the side of the bottle, marked 58/5 ea (58 shillings and 5 pence). Before decimalisation in 1971, this represented £2 18s 5d, equivalent to approximately £70–£80 in today's money after inflation—a fascinating reminder of how dramatically the whisky market has evolved over the past half-century.

This example comes from the remarkable collection we have been privileged to auction over the last several years, offering collectors another opportunity to acquire an exceptional piece of Macallan and Gordon & MacPhail history.
