Video conferencing is most definitely a must at the moment with groups using different softwares to try and keep going.
There are some basic tips to be aware of when you are using videoconferencing with a plethora of people.
1: Remember your bandwidth, video and audio take a lot of data capacity so stop other data usage in your home when you video call. That include gaming, Netflix, streaming on your devices.
2: Your devices only have a certain amount of processing capability and the more input you put in, the more it will struggle. Stay in one place when you conference call - it reduces the load on your device
3: If you can, put your device on a table rather than hold it. That way you have a consistent mic/volume level and one view. It can get dizzying if you are moving around.
4: Use headphones with a mic. The way devices work, some of them will cut the speaker when it thinks you are speaking - having headphones reduces the 'input' of the mic - especially if you have the devices volume up.
5: When you are not talking, be as silent as possible and that includes ambient noise. Consider muting yourself until you have something to say.
6: Have some basic guidelines about your interaction - if everyone tries to talk at the same time, it won't work. As my mother says
7: Give it a bit of time, it's new and it's different. It won't be the same as communicating in a group, it will take a bit of getting used to so just have fun with it!
There are lots of apps that are free, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp video call, Facetime, Google Hangouts etc. All may/could/will work well within limitations. My personal favourite is Zoom. (I am not an affiliate!)
Zoom is a specific video conferencing tool - consequently, for me, it just works.
