Keep their rabbit hutch and housing cool in the summer
It’s important to remember to keep your bunnies cool in the warmer weather and protect them from the sun. Exposed skin, for example on the tips of your rabbits’ ears, can get sunburned if they're exposed to too many rays. For outdoor rabbits, make sure their housing is out of direct sunlight. Find a shaded area in your garden or pop up a free standing parasol to provide some cover. If their exercise area doesn’t have an opaque cover, put a blanket on top of one end to provide some shade. Make sure there’s also items like platforms and tunnels in their housing and exercise areas to provide more shade.

How to insulate a rabbit hutch and housing for the winter
Before the cold weather starts to hit, give your rabbits’ housing a full MOT. Check for any damage, holes, leaks, damp - anything that can cause rain or the cold to get in. Pay particular attention to their roofing, check it’s completely watertight and there’s no sign of damage.

Add some extra insulation to your rabbits’ flooring with thick layers of newspaper, and replace this daily. Pile extra bedding hay or cosy paper bedding into their sleeping area that they can cuddle up in, and make sure they’ve always got plenty of high quality feeding hay in their housing too.

It's that time of year Rabbit Awareness Week.

"Indoors or outdoors: Where should my pet rabbits live?

Whether your rabbits live indoors or outdoors, the fundamentals of great rabbit housing are the same. The Rabbit Welfare Association of Fund recommends a minimum enclosure size for two bonded rabbits is 3m x 2m x 1m high and that your rabbits have access to their sleeping area, toilet area, and exercise area at all times.

Fundamentally, a rabbit hutch is not enough. Whether you have an indoor rabbit hutch, or outdoor, your rabbits need more space. There are lots of rabbit hutches for sale, however, it’s vital to make sure that whichever housing you choose, it meets the size requirements your rabbits need." https://rabbitawarenessactiongroup.co.uk/rabbit-welfare/environment/the-guide-to-rabbit-housing

Today is “Veterinary nurse day” and what better day then to book an apt with me! list of services and prices available, please feel free to get in touch 🫶🏼

* One big misconceptions about veterinary nursing is that we spend our days cuddling and playing with animals. Whilst there are undoubtedly moments of interaction and care, the reality is that being a RVN is a demanding job, one that involves a wide range of medical and administrative tasks.

* Veterinary nurses undergo rigorous training and education to qualify for their roles.

* Veterinary nursing requires a sound understanding of animal biology, anatomy, and pharmacology.

* Veterinary nurses can also specialise in equine veterinary nursing, farm animals, or even exotic species.

* We are essential members of the surgical team.

* Veterinary nurses are not just assistants

* Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a requirement for veterinary nurses in the UK

Veterinary nursing is a challenging yet very rewarding career that requires a deep commitment to animal welfare, strong technical skills, and emotional resilience.

Today is “Guide dog awareness” day!

- did you know that the first known example of a special relationship between a dog and a blind person was depicted in a first-century AD mural in the ruins of Roman Herculaneum?
- the first systematic attempt to train dogs to aid blind people came around 1780 at ‘Les Quinze-Vingts’ hospital for the blind in Paris
- it takes approx 18 months to train them!
- they have substantial positive health impacts with their owners
- guide dogs retire, the normal career span is 7-10 years. depending on the charity/foundation the dog can either stay with its owner or be adopted out, with a young pup taking its work load.
- the first four british guide dogs names were Judy, Flash, Folly and Meta.
- German Shepherds, labradors, golden retrievers are the most preferred breeds of guide dogs.
