I do like rare and unusual coins, especially error/mule coins.
They don’t happen too often but when they do they tend to make the headlines.
Cast your mind back to 2008, the Royal Mint were changing the design of the 20p coin.
The date was moving from the rear to the front.
The error happened as the dies were mixed, the end result a batch of 20p coins were minted undated. These coins to this day fetch 200 Times the face value.
In 2014 a error was made with the 2014 sovereign. As you can see in the pictures, the St George reverse side of the sovereign is minted to perfection in proof standard, where as the image of the queen was struck to bullion standard. The amount minted in error is unknown, they do however rarely come up for sale. I have an example Authenticated by PCGS for its validity.
