I want to share something I've never really talked about publicly before.
Back in June 2016, I was preparing our VAT return and realised there was no money in the bank and I couldn't pay the bill.
I'd been so focused on generating leads and marketing that I'd taken my eye completely off the finances. I'd added a layer of cost to the business that wasn't generating any return, and I hadn't spotted it until we were in trouble. I had to inject my own money to get us through it. Within 3 months I'd paid it back, but those three months were very uncomfortable, I can tell you.
The thing is, I thought it would never happen to me, would you agree that most of us think that way?
Cash flow problems don't just happen to businesses that are struggling. They happen to busy ones too, the kind where the phone is ringing, the diary is full, and it still feels tight at the end of the month.
