Great to be working with our colleagues recently, assisting with some picket fence and gate installation, as well as drilling in 10no 3600 treated softwood poles for a new sunshade structure at a local school.

Another little job recently carried out, including installing the storm drainage and a land based aggregate margin, along with dressing in some native as-dug topsoil to help blend this lovely hand cut timber frame barn into its ancient apple orchard surroundings.

Out on operated hire recently, excavating foundations for an oak framed garden office/gym space, which is now poured and out the ground.
This one involved preparing 600mm wide trench fill foundations, down to approx 2 metres deep, to reflect the proximity to trees.
We were very close to the harbour, and an adjacent stream, with a mixed soil type, very loose in places, with chalk and alluvial silts, and as we expected we were into the water table. The arisings were repurposed on site, and will eventually be landscaped in, to improve an existing perimeter mound feature. Another job where the and tilt-rotator made things easier. Especially handy with the extended geometry on the bucket where we could not get off the end of the long runs due to obstructions, so instead we just straddled the trench with sheets and worked backwards.

A recent project that we carried out on behalf of another contractor. We were asked to carry out the construction of a new rural estate public carpark. This was to replace two other smaller ones, which were in a bad condition, and stop the cars from parking under the canopy and over the root protection zone, of a stunning veteran oak tree. This site presented incredible ground conditions, in the form of a very stable, well draining sand substrate, meaning only a minimal cut was required, and we know it will hold up very well moving forward.
We set out and excavated the approx 1400m2 area, with a new entrance in off the highway, and path linking in with the existing.
Before importing, trimming out and compacting a 6f5 capping layer, and 40mm down locally quarried fittleworth stone surface course, to keep it looking natural. The car park is now fenced and height restricted, and in daily use by people visiting the stunning beauty spot which it sits in.

Some emergency enabling and site clearance works carried out recently in the Chichester area, for our colleagues .
Following on from a severe weather event ripping off the roof of the adjacent building, we were tasked with clearing the perimeter of one end, to enable the er****on of scaffolding and bracing, as well as a temporary roof, so the building could be made safe and weathertight. It was severely overgrown with dense brambles, elder, and small trees, so much that you could not step foot off the frontage tarmac before we started.
Our hydraulic flail mulcher, tree shear, rotating grab and tilt-rotator soon made light work of the job and kept their response to the incident moving along at pace.

Nice to get back digging again, after a well timed winter contract for our team, working inside in the dry ! This one was just a little excavation for a temporary holding pit, to settle the water and arisings from a borehole installation, due to start, as part of our ongoing country house garden renovation project.
The borehole will eventually work as a top up, alongside a stormwater harvesting system, that will pick up the house roof run off, and go to a new 20,000 litre capacity tank farm, prior to being pumped around the various zones of the new garden, to serve the watering requirements. Nice and easy with supplied guidance system, and tilt-rotator.

We were recently out getting some flail mulching works completed, prior to the nesting season restrictions.
This one involved clearing approx 250 linear metres of ditch line, of some very well established brambles and thorns, to reduce predator cover on a part of the reserve, to help the ground nesting birds that use the adjacent fields.

We recently progressed and finished the renovations to this lovely little flint built former well house that we had a hit on in the summer.
The building was previously in a very poor state, due to a few factors. Including age, general lack of maintenance by past owners, and also the former presence of a large tree adjacent to and overhanging it.
Initially following on from the tree felling and stump removal, we rebuilt some obvious structural cracks, before fully restoring and lime mortar pointing the internal masonry, we also replaced the cast guttering, and laid a new tumbled limestone floor. In the latest hit we have now done a full lime mortar repoint to all the exterior walls.
On the inside we have insulated, vapour membrane, counter battened and TGV boarded the ceiling. Along with fitting a new bespoke joinery made stable door and frame, with a cast sub cill. A new supply cable has been brought in, and a crisp new lighting scheme added, a new heavy duty workbench built in-situ, and paint finishes to all new wood to bring it to a close. This is now a nice garden workshop/basic gym space and is in good shape for the future. Thanks to our subcontractors and and our suppliers and for the supply of all the materials.

Some Chichester area land and site clearance works carried out recently, starting out with 40 metres of temporary panel fencing to secure the boundary, prior to some tree clearance. The cordwood has all been repurposed to be processed down to serve us and the client with firewood. Our supplied Tornado T350 excavator mounted stump grinder held its own again which makes it a really useful attachment for our machine.
A few of the beech stumps were pretty substantial, founded on a bank, and their roots linked together with multiple others, but it coped fine, and at a good pace, as well as dealing with a large multi stem birch stump of approx. 750mm which it flew through, being such a soft wood. A dry window was most welcome for this one.

20 metres of pleached Fagus Sylvatica planted earlier this week, to provide some screening above a very old flint wall, and the first steps towards a new kitchen garden layout. We look forward to seeing them open up in the spring, and watching this hedge establish over time, and add to the magic of the private rural garden that it sits in. Thanks to for the supply of the trees.
