Is It Time to Arrange Some Extra Support for Mum or Dad?

When you're close to someone, it can be difficult to spot when they might need a little extra help.

Often, it's not one big event that tells us it's time to consider care. It's the small changes that gradually become more noticeable.

Here are five signs to look out for:
✓ They're forgetting appointments or medication more often.
✓ Household chores are starting to pile up.
✓ They're eating less well or skipping meals.
✓ They're becoming more isolated and spending less time with friends or family.
✓ You're feeling increasingly worried about them or struggling to balance their care with your own responsibilities.

Support doesn't have to mean giving up independence.

In fact, the right support can help your loved one stay safe, comfortable and confident in their own home for longer.

If you're starting to notice some of these signs, we're here to help you understand the options available and find the right level of support.

When should I arrange care for an elderly parent?

It's one of the most common questions families ask when they start noticing small changes in a loved one's daily life.

Perhaps they're finding household tasks more difficult, becoming less confident on their feet, forgetting appointments, or spending more time alone. These changes can happen gradually, making it difficult to know when extra support might help.

The good news is that care doesn't have to mean giving up independence. In fact, introducing support early can help someone stay safe, comfortable and independent in their own home for longer.

At Angelica Care, we're here to help families navigate these decisions with compassionate, personalised support tailored to each individual's needs.

If you're starting to wonder whether now is the right time, we're always happy to have a friendly, no-obligation conversation.

The summer months can be a busy time for families. ☀️

With holidays, family days out, school breaks and changes to normal routines, it can sometimes be harder to balance caring responsibilities with everything else going on.
If you look after a loved one, it's important to know that support is available when you need it.

At Angelica Care, our respite care at home can give families peace of mind, while helping your loved one stay comfortable and settled in familiar surroundings.
Whether it's support with personal care, mobility, daily routines or simply having a friendly face there, our carers can step in with flexible help that works around you.

Taking a break doesn't mean you're caring any less. It gives you the opportunity to rest, recharge and enjoy time with family, knowing your loved one is receiving the support they need.

If you're planning your summer and would like to find out more about respite care, we're always happy to chat.

☀️ 3 Signs the Heat May Be Affecting an Elderly Loved One

With temperatures rising, it's important to keep an eye on older family members, as they can be more vulnerable to heat-related illness.

Here are 3 signs to watch for:

💧 Increased confusion or dizziness
If someone seems more forgetful, disorientated or unsteady than usual, dehydration or overheating could be a factor.

💧 Unusual tiredness or weakness
Feeling unusually lethargic, sleepy or lacking energy can be an early sign that the body is struggling with the heat.

💧 Headaches or feeling unwell
Persistent headaches, nausea or general discomfort may indicate that it's time to cool down and rehydrate.

Simple steps such as drinking plenty of fluids, staying in the shade, keeping curtains closed during the hottest part of the day and wearing lightweight clothing can make a big difference.

If you're concerned about an elderly loved one during the warmer weather, a little extra support and regular check-ins can help keep them safe and comfortable.

Staying Hydrated in Warmer Weather 💧

Did you know that older people may not always feel thirsty, even when their body needs fluids? During warmer weather, this can increase the risk of dehydration and overheating.

Simple ways to help elderly loved ones stay hydrated:
• Keep drinks within easy reach
• Offer water regularly throughout the day
• Try ice lollies, fruit or squash for variety
• Encourage little and often rather than large drinks

Small reminders and regular check-ins can make a big difference during hot weather ☀️

Happy Bank Holiday everyone! ☀️

With the sunshine finally making an appearance, it’s important to make sure you and your loved ones stay safe in the warmer weather.

Remember to:
💧 Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day
🌳 Spend time in the shade where possible
👕 Wear light, comfortable layers to keep cool

Older and more vulnerable people can overheat quickly, so a few small steps can make a big difference.

Enjoy the sunshine and have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend from all of us at Angelica Care 💜
