We’re here at The Workplace Event | The Facilities Event today.

Our Managing Director, Darryl is taking part in the Cleaning Innovation Hub panel, bringing an important conversation to the forefront of our industry.

There’s a lot of focus right now on systems, technology, and data, and rightly so.

But the question we’re exploring today is just as critical:
How do we modernise without losing sight of the people at the heart of the work?

It’s not about choosing one over the other. It’s about making both work, together.

Interclean 2026 won’t be about what’s new. It’ll expose what the industry still isn’t ready for.
Three things have tipped:
Robotics is no longer “interesting” - it’s becoming operational
AI isn’t experimental - it’s embedding into daily workflows
Sustainability isn’t a message - it now needs proof

None of that is new, but the speed is, and that’s where the gap is opening.
Because a lot of businesses are still talking innovation, selling sustainability and showcasing tech without actually deploying it at scale.
There’ll be impressive stands and polished demos, but very little that survives contact with a live contract.

So the real question is:
What actually delivers results when margins are tight, labour is stretched, and clients want proof?

That’s what we’ll be looking for.
Not theatre, not concepts, not “innovation” that never leaves the stand, just things that genuinely change outcomes.

We’ll be on the floor at Interclean.

What have you actually seen work in the real world - not just on display?

We keep calling it a labour shortage, but the people you’re trying to hire don’t see it that way.
Ask someone under 25 why they wouldn’t stay, and it’s rarely pay.
It’s this:
“Where does this go?”

And too often, there’s no clear answer, so they assume there isn’t one.
They leave early, not because the work is beneath them, but because the future is invisible.

That’s the gap.

Cleaning has real depth - health, sustainability, tech, leadership, but if none of that is obvious on day one, it may as well not exist.

People don’t stick around to discover potential; they commit when they can see it.

If your progression isn’t clear in week one, why would they bet on year two?

Great to see NeverStrip getting featured in the latest BICSc Standard Magazine👏

Floorcare is long overdue for a more progressive approach - moving away from costly, hazardous strip-and-seal programmes and towards solutions that deliver consistent results across surfaces such as rubber and tile flooring.

Good to be part of where things are heading.

Client expectations have shifted, whether we like it or not.
With the recent meningitis news, people are naturally more aware of health risks. And when that happens, clients start looking at cleaning differently.

Not “are you ticking the boxes?”, but more like… “are we actually safe here?”
It’s a subtle shift - but it changes everything.

Because many cleaning businesses are still built around delivering a spec, and that works… until expectations move beyond it.
That’s when the harder questions start, about outcomes, risk, and confidence.

Some businesses will feel that pressure.
Others will step into it - and stand out.
That’s the gap that’s opening up right now, and you can already see which side of it people are on.

You are aware there is probably a better way things could run... Switch suppliers?

But then your mind goes straight to: “What if it disrupts sites?” “What if something gets missed?” “What if the team ends up dealing with the fallout?”

So it just gets parked. Which is fair enough.

But most of the time, it’s not the switch itself that causes issues.

It’s all the bits around it.

Not really knowing what’s happening at the site level. No clear plan for how it will roll out. No one owns it properly end-to-end.

That’s when things start to feel messy.

When those pieces are in place, though, it’s actually pretty uneventful. Sites tick along. Teams just carry on. Things run a bit better.

And that’s really what it’s about. Not just changing supplier - just making things work better day to day.

“Figure it out.”
Genuinely feels like that sometimes!

You’re told it’s arriving - it doesn’t. It says “delivered” - no one’s seen it. It turns up - just not where you need it.

Individually, none of this sounds like a big deal. But it quickly becomes one.

You’re chasing stock, moving things around, trying to keep things on track. And the odd part is… this shouldn’t be hard anymore.

People expect to know where things are and when they’ll arrive - not guess. Still feels like the industry hasn’t quite nailed this.

When delivery works, no one notices. When it doesn’t, it affects everything.

Is this still happening on your side?
