There's no such thing as LED neon — it is either a neon sign or an LED sign. And this time of year, the difference shows.

As darker evenings set in, venues switch their lighting on earlier — and a flat LED wash just sits there, one-directional and cold. Real glass neon does something different. It glows at 360°, filling the space around it, instead of pointing at it.

We hand-bend every tube ourselves, in our Bolton workshop, so a bar or restaurant gets light that feels considered rather than bolted on. Built from real glass, made to run for years, not just one dark season.

Have you ever wondered how neon signs are made? Would you like to have a go at neon glass bending, but aren’t sure whether a full day workshop is right for you? Then why not try out our Group Neon Taster Session.

In this 2 hour session, you will be greeted by a member of our team, who will give you a brief history of neon signs and how they are made, and a tour of our amazing workshop, as well as some other interesting facts about neon.

You will then get the opportunity to have several turns at some basic neon glass bending to get a feel for the craft.

Glass tubes can be repaired (or a section re-made), and recycled.

LED signs, once a component fails, usually end up in landfill.

We've been hand-bending glass in our Bolton workshop since 2005, and part of what we're passionate about is the fact that this craft doesn't create disposable products. A real glass neon sign can be re-pumped and repaired rather than thrown away and replaced.

Here's something we've noticed watching production designers work with our neon signs on set.

There's a warmth to genuine neon on film. The way it glows, the way it casts light, how it reads on camera. It just works.

We've been hand-bending glass for broadcast and commercial shoots since 2005, and once you've experienced real neon on set, you understand why it's the choice for professional production.

Tony's been working with glass since 1989, and Sam since 2012. That's over three decades of hand crafting glass tubes in a flame. You can't fake that kind of experience — it shows in every bend, and every installation.

Tony's been bending glass over an open flame since 1989, and Sam began her journey in 2012.

There's no machine that can replicate this. The glass has to soften in the flame, then get turned and shaped by hand while it's still workable, second by second. That kind of judgement only comes from doing it thousands of times.

It's the same process behind every sign that leaves our Bolton workshop, whether it's a small home piece or a full shopfront.
