✉️ Return Addresses on Christmas Cards – Why They Matter More Than You Think! 🎄

We might not send much snail mail throughout the year anymore, but when Christmas arrives, the tradition of sending cards is still going strong. Many of these cards go to people we only catch up with once a year, yet surprisingly, lots of cards go out without a return address.

But adding one is more important than you might realise. Here’s why 👇

⭐ Why include a return address?

• If the recipient has lost your address – it helps them update their records.
• If the recipient has moved – your card can find its way back to you instead of disappearing.
• If you moved and forgot to send a “we’ve moved” card – this gives them the new details.
• If your writing smudges or becomes unreadable – weather, sorting machines, and handling can all take their toll.

📬 Why do cards get returned?

Some common reasons include:
• Outdated address lists – people move, circumstances change, and without regular updates the post can’t reach them.
• No return address – without it, undeliverable cards end up in a mail recovery centre (often known as the “dead letter office”).
• Addressing mistakes – incorrect numbers, wrong postcodes, or even a misspelled name can send your card on a detour.
• Automated sorting issues – modern mail relies on machines, and things like misplaced stamps or unclear writing can cause delays or returns.

✨ A small detail like a return address can save your Christmas cards from going missing and losing touch with friends.

Establish a routine and take action

* Check emails at set times:
Instead of constant checking, set aside specific times of day, like once or twice, to go through your inbox & setup folders & labels for those you keep.
* Take immediate action:
When you check, aim to handle emails that will take less than two minutes immediately—delete, archive, reply or unsubscribe.
* Move longer tasks:
If an email requires a longer task, move it to a separate to-do list. Do not let it sit in your inbox.
* Deal with things you can't act on immediately:
If you can't respond within 48 hours, reply to the sender to let them know when they can expect a response.
