It's been seven years since I walked away from my role at Scunthorpe Baptist Church, sad to leave so many amazing friends and colleagues, but excited for the next chapter.

What a journey, a slow start, an incredible project (Crosby Transformations), Small Practice of the Year LUCA in 2023, a reboot in 2024, growth in 2025, and entering 2026 determined to continue in and explore God's purpose in the next season.

Grateful to those who have supported me on the journey.

When you go to see a client just to give them a hand with a task and they share a lovely homemade lunch with you, and then give you one of their branded fleeces …

Lovely to be appreciated!

Always happy to go the extra mile to support my client’s mission!

Looking forward to 2025!Who is with me?

Hey! This is from LI but it will be of interest to churches and charities!

Here's my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind, by Coauthor.studio:

Five years ago, I started Priority Business Services with a simple mission: help churches and charities focus on what matters most. 2024 showed me just how far that vision has come.

This year demonstrated what's possible when professional bookkeeping meets kingdom purpose:

• Celebrated 5 years of serving churches and charities
• Presented at ICB Virtual Summit on charity financial governance
• Implemented new technologies (FreshPay, Xama Core) to enhance client service
• Featured on The Nonprofit Bookkeeper podcast sharing expertise
• Continued supporting churches transitioning to Xero

But the real joy? Watching our church and charity clients thrive:
• Multiple successful transitions to modern accounting software
• Strengthened financial governance across organizations
• Released staff and volunteers to focus on mission
• Prevented costly errors through professional oversight
• Supported trustees with clear financial reporting

Three posts that captured our journey:

"Well it has been worse than waiting for Christmas!"

Looking ahead to 2025: Expanding our support for churches and charities while maintaining the personal touch that makes our service special. Because when financial management is handled well, ministry flourishes.

To every church treasurer and charity trustee wrestling with financial responsibilities: You don't have to do it alone. Professional support isn't just about compliance - it's about enabling your mission to thrive.

Well it has been worse than waiting for Christmas!

So excited that another new church client is coming on board in the new year. So looking forward to putting them on new Xero software, and also setting them up with payment software too.

This might not seem a big deal … but … when you are waiting for that letter of engagement to be returned and the vicar goes on holiday …. I genuinely thought Santa had left the building!

If your church financial year starts in January, it is not too late to get signed up. And if it starts in April then the New Year is a great time to get in touch for an exploratory conversation and an affordable quote.

Free up your staff and volunteer teams time for the work of the mission - you will not regret it.

So important to keep up with the times and use software to its fullest potential.

So today I have signed up for Core from Xama to help speed up my AML onboarding process and also to expose me to some wider and more in depth AML training available to Core users.

Have used basic free Xama for more than a year now so am excited to take the next step!

My church and charity clients are loving the simple upload process for their POI and POA docs too.

A few weeks ago I was privileged to be able to attend Rollits LLP session on Serious Incident Reporting for Charities.

The knowledge gained was invaluable and has already been put to use twice with my charity and church bookkeeping clients.

I love to add value to those that I work with, and keeping myself up to date with areas of Charity Governance that are wider than finance is one way that I do this.

If your charity or church could use ‘more than a bookkeeper’ as part of their wider team, check out my website or better than that, get in touch!

And, remember, outsourcing your bookkeeping releases you and your team for your mission priorities!

Yes, I've been a bit quiet on here lately—busy times for my bookkeeping and payroll business, especially supporting third-sector clients.

This week, I met with a potential client who was using QuickBooks Online (QBO). Despite their best efforts, their bookkeeping was completely off track.

I’ve proposed re-running their bookkeeping from January 2023 onwards but with a fresh start on new software.

As much as I enjoy cleanups, this one was too messy to fix!

What went wrong?

Simply put, they didn’t fully understand double-entry bookkeeping, which led to transactions being posted to the Statement of Assets and Liabilities that should have been on the Statement of Financial Activities and vice-versa.

If you're operating in the third sector and need help with bookkeeping or payroll, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

A solid bookkeeping foundation can help you avoid costly mistakes down the line.

End of the week, winding down!

Glad to have submitted first year accounts and CT for the trauma informed training and consultancy company I am a part of, and a SATR for a local business owner, as well as making sure all my church and charity bookkeeping is up to date.

Also met the leaders of two churches that I have taken on recently to show them Xero and see the relief on their faces when they realise they now have tidy and up to date records!

Finally great to be able to encourage ICB UK (Institute of Certified Bookkeepers) to enter the LUCA awards on the LinkedIn Live with Ami Copeland and Graham Hambly earlier today. Thank you for the invite, and sorry to Helen Bower FICB PM.Dip that the tech didn’t quite work! Look forward to seeing you at Summit Helen!
