SCAM ALERT forward from my husband Nick of Securit Locks And Keys, following £4,000 paid into his business account this morning.
"SCAM ALERT.
Hi All, I was called this morning by someone claiming to be one of my old customers saying they had accidentally paid me £4000. When I logged onto my bank I could indeed see £4000 sitting there. Legit huh? He gave me his bank details and said his name was Liam Cartwright. I was writing this all down and asked him to repeat the details at which point he said his name was Ryan Cartwright. I told him I would transfer the money, and hung up but my spidey senses were on alert. I started entering the details on the app to pay him back to see how far it would let me go and then it said the bank wanted to talk to me. I rang my banks fraud dept. Surprise surprise it was a scam and if I had moved the money I was guilty of being a money mule. The bank fraud guy said this type of scam hasn't been seen for a while so please be careful if unusual payments hit your accounts followed by a phone call asking for it back.
I've spoken to the genuine guy who has been robbed and our banks will transfer the money back, but the scammer called me at least 8 times in the meantime probably trying to pressure me but I ignored his calls.
