Very much work in progress! It's definitely the first time I've been asked to paint a set of Uilleann pipes on a sign.
I've been in the workshop all day listening to the piping of the mighty Paddy Keenan who sadly passed away yesterday. One of the greats

I'm getting serious Letterheads FOMO seeing all the pictures coming from signwriting friends at Amsterdam letterheads this weekend! It's always so inspiring to meet up with different painters from all over the world and see people's different ideas and skills. Fingers crossed I'll make it to the next event!
These gatherings usually end with a charity auction of everything that's been painted and we bid on each other's signs. Here are a few I've painted at letterheads meets over the years

I'm walking a lot while I'm off work again for a couple of weeks. It's always nice to see old jobs out in the wild, here's another one I spotted today. I did the signwriting and decoration on this six years ago back in 2020

One I wrote back in 2022 spotted out in the wild a couple of days ago. I don't usually use lower case lettering like this but it was requested by the customer.

A double sided swing sign I painted and delivered to the Kennet & Avon canal trust cafe in Bradford on Avon last week. I have no idea who painted the old one, but I always quite liked it, so didn't stray too far from the original design. It was however completely rotten and so needed replacing. One of the trust's volunteers cut and background painted the board so I only had to do the fun bit 😊

I very much enjoyed having some fun and working with shades of pink on this one!

This was a re-paint done by Jamie Mullings at Devizes marina. Jamie's jobs are always top notch and a pleasure to signwrite!

The customer said she'd chatted to another writer a few years ago whose idea it was to use a squid te****le as part of the letter Q. Apparently that signwiter isn't doing it anymore, I have no idea who this was, but it seemed like a good idea so I stole it. I hope you don't mind and thank you 😊 (EDIT I've since found out who this was, the idea originally came from Somerset signwiter Kenny Selway). The rest of it was designed by me in the old fashioned way as a rough sketch on paper with a pencil.

I love working with pink. It's very rare to get a job using it though. I'm really looking forward to seeing this one out on the canal!

One I've just finished. This was designed by the customer and was a lot of fun to paint!

You know that thing when you have so much to do that you can't decide what to do first and get distracted doing something pointless instead. So I've painted my phone case 😬

First go back on the brushes after carpal tunnel surgery on my brush hand. I thought I'd have a play with some canal boat roses in a very different style to my usual ones. I think it's important to do this once in a while. I'll probably disregard 80% of this, but there are a few little things that I might try and develop into something that I'll use in the future. It's rare to get the time to paint something this rough on a scrap of cardboard box without worrying about what it looks like. When I'm painting for paying customers I stick to what I know will work, but it's easy to get stuck in a rut that way
